California - Northern

Does anyone know of "groups" or classes of chicken people meet together in the Sacramento area? I'm in 4H with my son, but I'm interested in learning about showing chickens myself from experienced adults.

You just missed a class on showing, last week. Unfortunately, there are no plans for another. What part of Sac of you in?

Debi and Karen, I think Walt is probably back to his busy schedule. I wish he had his own forum, sort of like an advice column where you could ask him questions. We would probably drive him mad, though!

Pat, that pic of the goose is a good example of why I don't have waterfowl!

Enjoy the beautiful weather everyone!

Figures! I live north of the city between Citrus Heights and Rio Linda. I've been fortunate to meet some great "chicken" people through CraigsList sellers.

My Mcmurray Chickens got to go outside today. They are 1 SG Dorking Cockerel and 3 SG Dorking Pullets; 3 Partridge Rock Cockerels and 2 Partridge Rock Pullets; 2 Redstar Packing Cockerels.

They were very excited:

Cali, I will let you know if I hear of any classes in the area. If you are ever in Capay Valley, you're welcome to stop by.

Ron, nice video. Mine haven't free ranged yet.

My husband decided to move the mobile coop to the bottom of the pasture (about 1400 ft.) WITHOUT the chickens in it! So now they are wandering around not knowing where to go. I'm waiting for dusk when a chicken round up will be easier. I don't know what he was thinking!

So sorry about the tractor being moved. Can you get them to follow you with treats?

Good luck!

It was funny watching them forage today. It was also funny to watch the Dorking cockerel play dominance games with the big Dorkling Pullet

We tried everything that we could think of and nothing worked. DH had to go get the coop, let them load and move it back.

Ron, that was a cute pic of your daughter & chick on the other thread.
Looks like another beautiful Spring day!

Haha That's what I figured you'd have to do. Chickens don't herd very well. Oh well, your DH won't forget next time.

I got such a chuckle out of this! Sounds exactly like something that would go on around our place! I figured you'd have to either collect each of them one by one or just bring the coop back to them. Chickens are so funny.....and so are husbands!
