Petrock I am so sorry you are dealing with this. Animal illness is just so not fun. :( When I saw Samson yesterday standing with his neck hanging off to the side and drooling my heart hurt so bad. The wound on his neck is large and infected. Caught too late. He hid it well, very well. :(

I marked the eggs and shoved them under Betty. I'm not sure when I can get over to Jeff's although he offered. Is there anyway I can remove them later and run them over if needed? On the upside- with the delay it would be easier to tell what chicks are hers.

I do have some concerns with Betty's broody ability though. She is dedicated but the eggs are all over the place under her. Some are under her, some on the outer skirts somewhat chilled...I want to trust her lol...

Broody's are excellent mothers, and know what eggs need to be cooled down, and what needs to be warmed up. Trust her. She's doing just what she was designed to do.

I have a DOG that eats weird things. My kids give their carrot tops and apple cores to Crash. He has even been known to stalk them while they eat the carrots or apple! He also likes celery.
My pup likes to eat carrots, celery, apples and even oranges from time to time. They all give her super nasty horribly funky gonna kill you gas and sometimes diarrhea ahhhh. So we have to be careful what falls on the floor. She is allergic to corn...and gobbles up chicken poop like they're tater chips. So nasty. But THAT gives her diarrhea because of the corn in their diet. Animals are weird. I have a cat the barfs occasionally and one of the other cats hears her heaving and runs from wherever he is and stands next to her waiting for it to hit the floor...and eats it. Why oh why are animals so gross? I prefer the lettuce eating cat I have outside. That outside cat also is a good mouser so maybe he is trying to fit in some greens? :P My son was trying to catch a rabbit hence the lettuce I believe.

Ok! This is so new for me. She now has 11 eggs under her. Unless someone has sneaked in more. I am trying to check her 2 times a day- although I hate bothering her. Other hens keep climbing in her box to lay eggs. We have 3 other boxes on the floor and 4 above her. But they want THAT box that is in.

My ducks are doing the same thing. I have 2 Harlequins that keep sitting in the same box together in the morning now. Not allowing other ducks to get in and lay- rather than lay in any of other THREE boxes in there - they are dropping them on the coop floor. LOL So weird!
