On further exploration, I found two more! There is a bit of a difference in color so I think they're both laying! One is slightly darker but I'm happy with both. Honestly, from those who know..., what's your thoughts on color quality and or what can I expect? Hard to get a picture to show how dark they .....

The color is very nice for Blue Copper Marans!

They may get darker--first eggs on Marans can be lighter. They will get lighter towards the end of the laying season.

OMG!!!! I got my first Blue Copper Marans egg! I think the color is pretty impressive! What do you think? Yipeeee! Oh and found a broodies nest and a broody in the laying boxes!!!!!!

Caramel rolls are almost finished baking! What a great aroma that is filling my house! I am going to have a crazy lunch!

New pictures for you 4 EE chicks. Yellow chick is from a buff x wheaten hen bred to a wheaten rooster. Chocolate chicks are from a buff x wheaten hen bred to a blue wheaten rooster. I got my chicks from Jeff! 11 hatched total.

Looks like 3 Buff Orps- they appear pure. Yellow, foofy dark spot on top of head.

1 looks messy- like she had a rough hatch. She looks grimy and tired. She is Buff Orp looking but it's hard to tell with her not being fluffy and dry like the rest.

I appear to have 1 Bantam BLRW at least. Small, various colors and clean legs.

5 other chicks that are black with white spots- 4 with feathery legs and 1 with clean legs. The 4 are def half Marans- what they are other half OF is anyones guess at this point. But the 5th black one has clean legs and is a tad smaller than the others...possible he might be a BBLRW? Some of the Marans mixes might be Easter Egger x Marans and some might be BO x Marans. I think I'll know more as they grow out right?

i took the other chick from Betty. I don't think Betty wanted her. She would tuck the black one under but this one she didn't seem to let hide under her like the black one.

This is my son trying to hide how proud his is of his bantam Wyandotte roo, "Tickie". I love it when kids try to hide a huge grin. <3







My son LOVED this bird and bought him to show and start his own show flock. Not knowing much about poultry color genetics, the only hens my son had produced unshowable colors.

We found him a young, but suitable mate (another white). Welp, a family of bobcat moved in and wiped out my boys' show birds in nothing flat - all except for this roo's mate. We lost him just before she starting to lay.

I feel awful because, while my kids do the animal chores themselves, it was me who left the coop door open.

I'd like to help him find a really good replacement for his roo. Does anyone know where I can get a high quality WHITE BANTAM WYANDOTTE roo?

She'll need to be isolated so others can't go after her. I'm guessing the other chick would go in with the ones from Jeff in a brooder. I had to seperate a chick a couple of years ago and I was able to use a wire fence so he could still be with the other chicks but protected. It looks like both her eyes were spared in the attack. They look so fragile but are tougher than we think.

I would give her a chance if you are able, it won't be the easiest chore.

Oh Zoo, I'm so sorry for the poor little thing. I'd clean it up the best you can and treat it. My choice would be Vetricyn (sold at feed and pet stores), but if you only have Neosporin that would be okay as long as it doesn't have the pain killer in it.

I would base what I do on how the chick is acting. If it's eating and drinking, you'd be amazed what they can recover from. Put some electrolytes in the water and make sure the chick is drinking.
