Cannot wait to see what these birds create! Finally had some time to spend checking everyone out and one of the hens has the nicest stacked tail. I feel so lucky to have such quality stock. The batch of FBCM's from debs_flock and SunnyDawn are in the incubator now and due to hatch on 20th so my next hatch will be from these three. I'm really happy with the egg color from my blue's....they stand up next to the one's in the incubator pretty nicely.

Sounds like you are getting a great start with them Pam. I just locked down some Blue Marans

If you are within 2-3 hours from Tahoe (south) and are selling chicks or fertile eggs I would love to know about it!!!

Blessings,
Kandi

Hi Kandi, I live in the Placerville area and ALWAYS have eggs and chicks available. What breeds are you looking for?

Sorry for reposting these guys. Can you help me ID them?
Quote: Sorry no one responded sooner.

I would say the first is a Golden Comet roo, the second two HQ RIR or possibly HQ New Hampshire Red (sic). Very beautiful roos.

Is there a support group like Chickens Anonymous? We just got our first two, and I already want more. Question: they laid eggs the first day here, so if they, um, spent time with a "gentleman" at their previous home, will they lay fertile eggs for a few days?

Welcome to the thread, I believe the answer is yes.

Another sweet roo story! I love them. Roos do get a bad rep but ours is wonderful too.

Can you post a pic of your new boy...and Big Daddy...poor guy

When is you hatch due?

That's OK Deb. Things get lost in the shuffle with an active thread like this. The bachelor boys are gorgeous. I think they are both getting pullets soon. My uncle is a dear animal loving man but his handling and husbandry are not well informed so he makes some mistakes with his birds at times. I want to put one of these boys with my Delaware girls to get Alli some eggs so wanted to make sure what they are :-)

wow, was it windy last night -- sounded like the 40s & 50s, barely slept at all, and the deck is all covered with blown-down detritus. relieved to see the corrugated roof is still on the chicken coop -- somehow i always worry that thing will become a huge sail in a breeze & fly away!

Hello all,
I am sad to say that in my 6 years of hatching chicks I have had my first 0%! We had a bAd feeling since when the post man drove up to the house I want RUNNING to the front door in time to see him throw the box marked " fragile please hold at post" ( written on every side) onto my snow covered cement porch.....

I asked how could he to which he responded " I didn't see the writing, and you can't just write on the box, the shipper is required to request the hold online or call ahaid to the delivering post office!"

So here we are in south lake and I do NOT want to ship again. We have a few 3 week old feed store chicks but really would like a docile breeding stock of moderately good layers.

If you are within 2-3 hours from Tahoe (south) and are selling chicks or fertile eggs I would love to know about it!!!

Blessings,
Kandi
I have lots of darling EE chicks available (1 to 2 weeks old) that are from a mix of my buff, wheaten and blue wheaten pure Ameraucanas. I can also collect eggs from the same birds if you would like to go that route

The eggs they lay will be turquoise (blue green) and blue. I am in Grass Valley, a little less than 2 hours from you.

oh, the bobcat just paid another visit to the chicken coop! girls all freaked out & flying everywhere, but they were safely inside & he couldn't get in! he's a BIG one...

How sad! I'm going to have Langshan eggs shipped to me in the next month or so. I've never had eggs shipped to me and I'm nervous about it after hearing all the horror stories. I have a nice mail carrier but she doesn't deliver my mail all 6 days. So, I should ask the shipper to request that they hold the package at the PO?
