Thanks. You're right. And he didn't just chase me- he would jump on me. Head, back...I am not afraid of him but hot dog that would scare the crap out of me. He weighed like 8 pounds! I became good at listening for him running at me, walking with a stick to push him away...but I shouldn't have to do that. :(
Ya my husband has a stick for me outside their pen lol. He will be the first to go when we need more room but it will be hard because he was our first roo and he's the one that got us hatching :)

Oooh, how cool! I'm jealous. Although not of the amount of poo and soggy bedding you'll be knees deep in. What is a Silky Duck?
We are doing 4H with out 6 year old. We may wait until next year, but we called the people and went to one of the meetings. It was really neat! I was in Campfire as a kid and enjoyed it, but I would have loved 4H. We aren't Boy Scout/Girl Scout people either.
I think it's wonderful what you're doing for Curly! And what a sweet husband to postpone your plans. Aww. She totally does look like a little Prima Ballerina!

Anyone good with bug bites? Clementine has 20+ mosquito bites all over, but one of them is smaller and has red around it (not like a bullseye, though) I would have thought we would have seen a tick there, although I did just pull a tiny one out of her armpit (I saved the tick and drew a circle around the bite. It was smaller than a flea, not full at all.) Here's a picture, it's the bite on her shoulder. I checked the middle and can't see fang marks. You can see the "normal" mosquito bites down her arm.

Ouch!! Poor thing! My youngest reacts weird to bug bites. They get huge, and get bigger when she scratches them. She also get eczema really bad, so I think her skin is just more sensitive. Could it be bigger because she's scratching it, or maybe it got infected?

I need some affirmation. I just culled Gary. Many of you recall who he is. Only the neatest rooster ever...gone mean on me. I never did anything to him but over the months it's escalated. The more I chased him off, or put him in penned up time out...the more he seemed determined to stalk me. He only sometimes went after my 9 year old son but completely left my 11, 6 and 4 year olds alone. He also did not go after my hubby or mil. It was getting so bad we were penning him up daily just so I could go outside (we free range). Culling him has my 6 year old messed up and my 11 year old is being fake stoic - he ADORED that rooster. Like...loved him. I feel like a horrible person for doing it. I feel like a horrible person that I can even do it. Who can do that?? Me. No one else in my house. Not husband, not mother in law...nope just Amy. And it's not fun, I don't enjoy and I want to barf. Killing for the table is one thing...this was not that. I just feel rotten. But I know I could not give him away- he could be mean to someone else. I couldn't keep him- he was growing spurs. I wouldn't have a purpose for him- can't breed him, can't let him be with the others (or he'd get me). I swear when I was holding him he knew. He kept staring at my face. It was SO weird. Can I just skip to bedtime? I still have to teach Wednesday church to a room full of toddlers. So not feeling it- probably be good for me though. Thanks for listening. <3
Aww Zoo. I'm sending lots of hugs to you and your family. I'm so sorry you had to do that, but it was the only thing you could do.. especially if his nasty behavior is escalating. If it makes you feel better, I need to cull one of my Spain roosters because he is doing the same thing. He completely leaves Johnny alone but me and the 9 year old I watch get attacked constantly. He's my most beautiful rooster and you know how much it took for us to get him! It's not too bad now since he doesn't have spurs but I have to do it before he hurts anyone. Thank you for giving me courage by being so strong! Hugs friend!!

Being a grown up tends to suck sometimes. I have been whining about that a lot lately.
x2! Can't we just go play in the sprinklers all day?

Ugh. I am terrible at consoling people, so I was trying to find the picture of my dog holding a sign that says "I love you"(I've been told it generates many smiles!) but no luck. The pictures I want to find always seem to disappear when I need them.

But I do agree with everyone else, I would have done the same thing. You do not want to risk your kids getting hurt!

I'm sorry, That's so hard. It doesn't look like your really had a choice. You couldn't in good conscious give him to someone else. The kids will get over it and realize you did what was best. I remember when I was 11 or so, we had a little pig named Rover. One day my mom took all us kids out to the store, but we were mostly just looking around. She got a call a little while later- from my dad, and it hit me. They processed Rover. I was mad, but I was more upset that they didn't tell me what was going on.

Thanks guys! No one else can quite understand like you guys could. People who don't keep animals but are all Peta like- would make me feel like a bigger villain. My friends try but - putting down an animal with your own hand that you actually loved? Oh my gosh. I was not as attached to him towards the end- getting jumped and dive bombed will do that. But it was not any easier.

It doesn't always take spurs. I have a pen with two Iowa Blue roos. I've been having a heck of a time deciding which to keep, they both have redeeming qualities. About two weeks ago, one of the roos jumped my DH a couple of times, but it was the feed bucket he hit. He's never shown aggression towards me and never when we go in to collect eggs. About a week ago, DH was in filling their feeder and he jumped him again. He is only a cockerel, so only nubs for spurs. His toenails caught DH across the back of his calf in two places, sliced him clear across. He had blood running all down his leg enough that it puddled in his shoe. I think it has made clear who to keep. Yesterday he went in to feed and I went in the pen to keep an eye on the rooster while he was tipping the bucket of feed into their feeder. He never showed any sign of jumping us, but I can't keep a rooster like that around (even if he does have a perfect tail set..........

Oh my goodness! OUCH!

Betty has passed the broody test again. 24 hours guarding her nest. Nest of what you might ask? Nothing. LOL Betty is broody and sitting on nothing. haha I'm going to slip something under butt tonight though. She's funny. She's younger than my other Orps but this is her second broody. She wouldn't make a good egg layer but she makes a fine broody lol!
