Welcome to all you new chicken fans out there!
I have a basque egg peeping back to me, hoping for a pip or two tonight.
Only had 10 make it to lockdown, shipping was rough on these babies. I've got everything crossed I can.![]()
I hope you have a bunch of them hatch! I set 25 more of them this morning!![]()

Goodluck keeping all that in order.I just figured out my hatches--Dick Horstman shipped the replacement eggs from last year--They showed up without notice yesterday. I did talk to Dick two months ago.....then they just show up!
I have 130 egg incubating right now in three incubators and under a broody. I have space for 4 more eggs and then I would need to start stacking them.....The eggs will hatch at 4 different times so 4 staggered hatches going on at the same time.
How did this happen?![]()
I have 4 hatch charts and have marked the eggs according to hatch. I will have to pay close attention or I will have a bunch hatching on the turners again...Goodluck keeping all that in order.
oh. my. gosh. lol Can you stack while using a turner? hehe!! I might need to...I just figured out my hatches--Dick Horstman shipped the replacement eggs from last year--They showed up without notice yesterday. I did talk to Dick two months ago.....then they just show up!

We raise Dorpers. A great meat sheep and a hair sheep. No shearing, the wool just falls off in the late Spring. We do still have some of our original flock from before we changed over to the Dorpers. They were Dorset crosses and all black sheep. So we still have quite a few blacks. We need to have the shearer here for them every year and he will clean up any Dorpers that haven't finished dropping their wool. Then of course, we need to have the alpaca shearer out to take care of the rest of our group and our one llama.
When we compared kids ages, I had noticed you said 22,22................LOL, I figured you had twins and not just a typo, LOL
Does anybody on this thread live in or near Sacramento?

That would be my guess.
Hello everyone!
I am in Gilroy. Im 30 minutes east of the coast and a half hour south of San Jose and an hour and a half south of San Francisco.
I'm new to chickens (less than a month) although I've had macaws for 20 years.
I like to talk to someone about our weather and what chickens can handle.them to sleep in as I let them roam the yard all day...
Cold won't be an issue for you at all as long as they are dry and out of direct wind. Heat will be your biggest problem (I grew up in San Jose and know it can get HOT in Gilroy). Place your coop under the shade of a tree if you can. On really hot days, wet down the ground. It really cools the chickens off if they can lie in the shade on damp earth.
Welcome aboard!

The Biggest problem is keeping the Del eggs away from the RIR eggs. They look a lot a like. The SG Dorking eggs are white and the Basque eggs are shiny. I still marked them though.
