Quote: She is very sweet! Then again I do get a bit attached to the ones I hatch.

She is 14 to 15 weeks old, so should get a bit more colorful. She is a nice accident.

She is one I am keeping thought.

A guy from work is taking this one:

I hatched this FBCM from Linda Hammid's FBCM Hatching Eggs.

Totally agree about the cat dreck, but my dogs seem to think it is a rare delicacy!

Pig poo is pretty potent too!

Going to make banana bread tonight!!!!
My marans have the worst of the chicken poo. I can actually tell its from them and not the other girls. If the eggs were not so frigging awesome, id be rethinking these huge piggy poopy girls, lol.

That's a hen right? Even my 3 weekers have giant combs compared to that. (i'm trying to pay attention to these things! lol)

Quote: Oh Sorry, Yes I have 6 FBC marans, 2 Cockerels and 4 Pullets. I am keeping 2 of the pullets and the guy from work is getting the other 2. The 2 FBCM Cockerels are available.

She is one of my FBCM Pullets and is 13 weeks old. Yours are definitely little roos. Very nice little Roos

Glad that you found a home for your roo, Ron.

Sheep manure is just as dry & orderless as rabbit. I agree, pig & cat have to be the worst. And IMO duck poo & water is almost as bad.
sickbyc.gif
Horse & cattle are not so bad, unless it gets wet. I love the smell of a sweaty horse's neck. And I'm not weird because Pat Parelli said the same thing.

They should make a man's aftershave that smells like it. The striking thing about broody hen poo is the size!

I'm jealous of you, that can bake this time of year. Our swamp cooler does a poor job, so we can't use the oven all summer. We cook everything on the grill.

Wasabi... you might ask the question about the pines on the Sierra thread, since they have more pines than the rest of CA.

Have a good day everyone,
Kim

Kim, I say the heck with it and run the A/C. As long as I can afford the PGE, I'm going to be comfortable!

I saw your post about your St Croix, don't you just love the hair sheep? We raise Dorpers. We also have a few black sheep. When the shearer comes for them, it's nice to be able to just turn the dorper back out into the pasture. He does do our llama for us every other year too. The one that is really $$ is when the alpaca shearer comes, but I

so much after they are done, it's worth it.

Ron, I hatched out FBCM from Linda this year too. I ended up with 3 cockerels and 5 pullets. She had identified two eggs as being a Ron Presley roo over a Ron Presley hen, so I put them in pedigree boxes to hatch. One hatched, but he is the absolute head of the pen; huge, gorgeous body, type, color, perfect leg feathering. I've always kept him banded, but even without a band I could pick him out in a second. He obviously knows he is boss. When the coop door is opened in the morning, he is first out and everyone else waits in the open door. He rushes out and patrols the pen. He makes a challenge to the boys in the pens on each side (even though he is living peacefully with six other boys in his pen). He checks everything out, no one else is allowed to come down the ladder for as long as five minutes until he has checked everything out. They all stand and watch him, then slowly start to come down the ladder. This same routine happens without fail, every morning. I've thought about making a video, it's quite funny.

I see no comments other than the one positive one and a response by the author. Maybe negative comments are deleted?

Deb
I think you are correct in that deleting assumtion: my comment was there for less than 10 min & then gone. :( Hopefully their blog isn't a popular one & ppl are becoming smarter about their food.
Wish I had copied my long reply: I would repost & repost if I had the time!

I have a Convection toaster oven that I use for baking bread. If the pan does not have handles, I can get a 9X13 inch pan it it. I can bake two loaves at a time too. My big Gas oven produces a lot more heat, so I think the little oven has paid for itself already.

That is funny about the Ron Presley roo. Mine are Cottage Hill Roo and Jean Wade Hens. Both are nice but one is a bit flighty. Neither is mean but the one lets me know he does not like being moved.

My SG Dorking cockerel from McMurray is funny. He hangs out with the layers but stays in the garage at night. I go out at dusk to find him because he does not know where to go. Last night he looked at me and then looked up at the top of a pallet that leans against my Plum tree. Chipmunk, my EE pullet was roosting up there and he wanted to get away from me by getting up there with her. It took him several tries and finally He had to hop from a planter to get up there. Chipmunk did not like him being there and moved through the tree, jumped down and ran for her little coop

.

When they accept him he will be a great roo for them.

The morning challenge is particularily funny, the roo on one side is a lakenvelder, the roo on the other side is a serama. The serama roo is about the size of Presley's head and neck, but they still challenge each other through the wire.

If anyone starts down the ladder sooner than he thinks they should, he gives them the "look" and they go back up. Finally a couple of pullets will come down and then everyone else follows. The other roos in the pen are 2 more FBCM and 4 NH. I've never seen any aggression in the pen between them. Although as soon as I free up a pen, the little group will be broken up.
