I am sorry for the loss of your Boy!

Well, I got home to 4 Serena chicks and 2 pips. Only one is not doing anything yet. It was cold the first few days they were in the incubator so I was not sure when they would hatch.

Apparently they all decided on 4.

Are were as like quail in that they all tend to hatch in a big pop or burst?

(Pictures once they fluff it and move in with the baby quails.)

no sorry. mine all got picked off from a hawk. they need space. they like to fly into the trees.

This is totally off topic, but maybe some will find it amusing. You all know how difficult it is to take a good picture of chickens. Try taking a portrait with hogs! I was recently elected to be a director for the American Guinea Hog Assn. They asked for my brief resume and a picture of me with my hogs for the website. So I talked DH into taking pictures and I was going to try to get my sow & boar to pose with me. DH was skeptical. He said no way was I going to get pigs to sit for a picture. Well... I couldn't get them both to hold still and face the same direction at the same time. But, I have to show what a sweetie pie my boar, Lucky, can be. Here he is, sitting just like I asked. He's even smiling.

The Final Necropsy Report for my Australorp Hen came back--Cause was Liver Rupture from Fatty Liver Disease. She was 2.5 years old and the Ovaries were still active.

The tests were none detected for Salmonella, Avian Influenza and Bacteria.

This is totally off topic, but maybe some will find it amusing. You all know how difficult it is to take a good picture of chickens. Try taking a portrait with hogs! I love pigs, but that is a face only a mother could love.

DH said he would like to raise a pig. I asked him who was going to feed and tend it, he said I was. I reminded him that we have laying hens not meat birds for a reason. I still remember raising a bummer calf as a kid. If we traded pigs with someone else-maybe.

Twenty years ago there was a little girl in 4H that taught her hog to sit on command, she would hold up an apple core and say sit. When he sat, he of course got the apple.

On the day of the livestock auction, her leader passed a note to the auctioneer about the pig's trick. The auctioneer held up the auction, told the audience to watch and that little blonde, pig tailed, 8 year old girl told her 275 pound hog to sit. He immediately sat and got his treat. The audience erupted! That little girl got $20 a pound for her hog, the going price at the time was around $3 a pound.

That was a profitable trick!
