California - Northern

And I was so hoping our cool down would start on Thursday, but they changed the forecast dangit!

Our downstairs is cooler so we sleep there. It's days like this that make me regret moving from Watsonville, near Santa Cruz and Monterey. Wish I had the money to move back.

I agree with missing Northern Monterey County(Castroville, over the county line from Watsonville). I could never have bought property there.. I owned a mobile home in Monte Del Lago for twenty years. I DID own a very small house in Seaside for 9 years, sold it for 50k in 1987.

I am still very much a coastal kinda gal, miserable at temps above 80. This week is especially hard on me.

This afternoon the girls are holding up far better than moi - below they are being entertained watching our dogs pant.

Here's Tilly contemplating a bug crawling overhead.

Hot, hot, hot, snivel, snivel, sniff.

Just looking at the forecast makes me faint. The cooling 90s in the forecast can't arrive soon enough. I need to get out and shop for a whole new tropic wardrobe (store dressing rooms are so wonderfully cool!)

I will check this out! Could use a diversion. We have 2 central ACs, one cools upstairs and the other downstairs. I was concerned years back when we got talked into adding the separate upstairs AC. But worked well last 8-9 years. Once kids out on their own we could shut off upstairs and keep cooling costs down. This current heat wave has resurected my old concerns as our original 14 year old unit isn't able to cope. Yesterday our son decided to visit and spend the night. That's when we discovered upstairs unit DOA. DH found fried fuses so off to HD. Where they spent an inordinate amount of time searching in vain for the 20 fuses listed on their inventory. The next HD down the road had fuses. DH installed them and AC cooled upstairs. High fives, but I asked DH what to do about wheezing downstairs unit. He decided to sleep on it. This morning I found the upstairs unit croaked, fuses blown per DH. That's when I played my time-to-call-in-the-pros card. We are on a cancellation list which is OK as can get by a few days. Thankfully we are already booked for long anniversary weekend soon at Portugese Beach in Sonoma county. Fog will be heavenly! Our son rousted out about 10 am, covered with sheen - I don't know how he slept in 85 degree bedroom. (No AC is one way to keep kids from considering a move back home, that's for sure). Once again, our pullets are enjoying :lol:better conditions than us humans.

Hello my fellow chicken people!

It is bloody HOT! I almost had to put our Orpington rooster in a dog crate and put him in the house near an air duct yesterday. Poor guy was just miserable. Then last night we set up a fan to blow air into the coop because they were all droopy and panting on their roost at 9pm! Ridiculousness!! The poor hubby is outside on a forklift at work all day wilting as well.

happily received 11 silver campine eggs in the mail today from Deb, and after a five hour rest they've now been slipped underneath my broody cuckoo marans Dixie -- will see if she can manage all 11!

and I've managed to get my one remaining broody SPPR separate from her 6-week-old chicks without too much fuss, although i am feeling bad whenever i hear her somewhat forlorn clucking... hoping she gets over it soon.
