thanks -- she's the only one behaving this way, out of 12 birds in that pen -- i guess i would think mites would affect everyone? they had a dust bath of wood ashes all winter/spring from my stove, but it's been so hot, it hasn't been replenished lately... maybe i'll clean the stove out & give them the ashes.

and i'm never sure what i can put in their water along with the corid -- usually they get ACV, but i left it out while the meds are in there. haven't been giving electrolytes.
You can put electrolytes in with the Corid.

Often one chicken will show symptoms first. I call that one a sentinel chicken and I watch her carefully. Currently that is my Golden Comet. She was the only one to show symptoms of mites. The Rest of them looked fine while she was statue standing and ripping out her tail feathers.

no feather picking, so far anyway, and i can't see any sign of mites (although like you said, they would be bad if i could see them) -- and poops are perhaps a bit on the mushy side but not unusual. no sign of worms that i can see, although again, doesn't mean they aren't there!

thanks, i'll try adding some electrolytes to their water!

Do you have front line for your dogs? If so a drop under each of her wings can't hurt. I have seen lots of warnings about using front line but no one who's chickens were actually hurt.

Look at her nose closely. is it sticky or any discharge or look like food is stuck to it? That can be resprertory issues. If you pick her up does she vomit fluid? That was Buffy's last sign and I had just read about it so I noticed it.

Those are the signs I didn't notice at first from sick chicken I now notice.

i only have cats, not dogs (although you just reminded me it's time to re-do their frontline!) -- and her nose seems to be fine. just ate some corn with the rest of the gang (their evening treat came early today), then got back up on her perch and closed her eyes. haven't tried picking her up today... if she still seems down tomorrow i'll try it, don't want to bug her too much now!

and thanks SO much for the suggestions, it's wonderful help to narrow things down!

Frontline is frontline--The dosage is different.

Treat the coops too--dust the runs with poultry\garden dust along with the nest boxes.

It really sounds like mites.

Really check around her nose if they have a slight discharge it dries fast and all you see is a see through crust or some food that sticks.

I think advantage is advantage but doesn't front line have heartworm stuff thus different?

I always bought advantage to use on dogs and cats the same....

I found my first Blue Egg layer from the UofA egg! It is very blue and very nicely shaped!

They are 20.5 weeks old:

This is the first egg by itself:

This is the First egg with eggs from today to see the color contrast:

capayvalleychick should get one soon too!

frontline for cats kills fleas and ticks, but doesn't have heartworm stuff -- don't know about dogs.

and question about mites: if they were bothering one chicken, wouldn't they be bothering them all?

beautiful eggs, ron!!!
