You all have such adventerous quail! Mine would not eat fodder or mealworms or fruit. They would think I was insane if I offered them leaves.
I have 3 mulberry trees so they really like the branches with berries on them! They totally strip those branches! They don't eat the leaves of some of the other branches from bushes but they do like to hide under them.

Was she on her back? Wings in or out? I've had a couple of hens (one 4 years ago and one a month ago) that I found dead under the coop on their back with wings spread and a broken neck. Sometimes they get freaked out and try to fly away, even though they are under the coop. I call it death by stupidity.

I've had a few of those, I just figure they are cleaning out the gene pool for the survival of the species.

Yes, on the back is a broken neck. On the stomach is cardiovascular including liver rupture.

I store my feed, grain, etc. in stackable pet food containers that I buy at Costco. They cost around $28 and easily hold a 50 lb. bag of feed. They don't always have them so I try to pick up 1 or 2 when they do. Amazon carries them, too. Here is a pic from amazon.com. Whoops! Sorry the pic is so big!

My quail ran away from the watermelon at first but they could see the broody and her chicks digging in.  Same thing when I sprinkled mealworms in their sandbox.  They now check out the sand first thing when I do morning chicken chores.  They won't take them from my hand yet but they are watching and not running.

Do you keep you quail in with your broody or are they "neighbors"?

On the subject if processing I have spent many fruitless hours in search. The only thing I have found is bear river ranch in grass valley an so... I sent an email. I suppose if he is still in buisness then it would be worth a drive every six months. But his page said min 10 for poultry... Guess ill have to turn on the bator;-))))))

Anyone have any reviews on mr. Gonzales?

Darn chickens. Why do they have to be so cryptic about whats bugging them! Just say it already...

happily, Frances the SPPR is looking much more perky this morning, and is enthusiastically eating her kale and sunflower seeds with the rest of the gang. so some combination of the corid and/or electrolytes seems to have solved her ills.

thanks again for all the suggestions/ideas!

That is great!

We hit 102 yesterday but the temperatures are supposed to drop now. I hope we do not have too many heat waves this year.

I heard rabbits love the bark on mulberry trees. If anyone has rabbits and mulberry bushes perhaps cut some branches for the bunnies.
