Aw heckkkkk no! Silkies aremy least favorite bird to eat meat wise the skin is back. The neat is black the testes are black ( in a silkie cross roo he has one black one, freaky!) The bones are darker but not midnight.
I stew all my silkies. There are a fair few black to the bone breeds in the Orient. There is argument if silkies were the first or just a specialized offshoot.
If anyone has ever wondered how many times a skunk can spray before it runs out it is more then 3 and less then 6. On a related note some pro tips for trapping skunks do NOT put the cage right next to the door of your coop!
Also, vinegar washes work well on human hair.....
In other other related news: our new trap is working !
I will be watching closely to see how these do with all the weirdness and challenge during this hatch.i'm hoping for some hatching isbars soon, too -- these are the ones that spent a day or so in the malfunctioning incubator, at too low of temps (~85 most of the time?), then sat out at room temp for another day, and THEN went in at the correct temp on august 27 -- that makes today day 19, but i'm not sure whether the day of being at 85° might have gotten any early development going, so i switched the egg-turner off on thursday, and am now keeping an eye on them... just in case...
Good morning! Okay it is afternoon, but I am taking a break from packing and catching up...... BYC is the best for not getting anything done.
The first step is to give her yogurt and massage the crop. The stinky smell takes several days to show up. If the Massage does not work, then you have to cut an incision above the crop and clean it out. The incision heals up after treatment. Look for instructions on BYC.
Since she is eating and drinking but randomly falling asleep, she may have the initial Mareks virus. I would separate her, giver her a teaspoon of yogurt and some vitamins like save a chick in the water each day. Giver her grit and starter feed.
All chickens get mareks but few show the symptoms of the initial infection. 5 to 3 percent will die of Mareks cancer at around two years of age.
And there was much rejoicing!
My sick girls are not eating much. I think it might be they are off aspirin now so in more pain even with the spray.
I made a mealworm scramble with some vitamins this morning. They did eat some but didn't finish it. I'm going to try some watermelon later to keep them hydrated.
The things we do...
My flashlight is super bright and I am starting to think reading glasses may be required soon.I keep a flashlight and a pair of reading glasses right next to my hatcher so I can get a REALLY good lookI'm getting old, I need the glasses!![]()
Yes, while awake. anesthesia is very bad for chickens. A large percentage will never wake up.Originally Posted by ronott1

AHHHHH You actually cut into the bird? While it is awake?
So, I lost one of the quail. Not like -RIP- like it literally disappeared. No Idea where it went. It was in the brooder (closed with a top and all that), in the garage around 11 AM. At 2 it wasn't in there anymore. Still have the 2 chicks and the other quail. Weird!!
Quail will flush and pop the tops of brooders and escape. Are they adults or babies? If they are younglings listenvforvthe calls they freak out when alone.
Well let's hope the other doesn't disappear. What are you using for bedding? Maybe it did pass away and is under the bedding?
