That's a cool story

My Mottled Java source is a no go right now. Poor gal is experiencing flooding. Pretty sure she is a single mom and she is also a war vet who operates her ranch where she runs churro-navajo sheep and Dexter Cattle. Anyway she is a little occupied with lifeand weather and so I told her not to worry about the eggs. I will get them the next broody go around. Pretty stoked because she has been working with the ALBC on the MJ restoration project. It will be good to get some of her birds when I get em.

I did win an auction for Silver Penciled Wyandotte eggs which are being shipped to me within the hour

Should I check air cells when I get them home or should I wait until they warm up? Also she is sending a dozen though the auction was for 8 Should I give my girl all 12 if they are all good or should I just give her 10?

I check them for cracks and air cell condition when I open the package.

Give her all 12.

Tommys, if you are worried about them being too much for her you could split them between an incubator and the hen, but if shes fat enough she will love them all. Just be careful because hens dont always agree about how many eggs they can incubate. She will keep stealing eggs until she is on a pile up to the roof.

Bella has been sitting for 20 days....and we have 2 pips starting! We are so excited! I am not going to get anything done today....LOL

Woooot!!!

She is an Australorp who easily covered 7 last time. She stole eggs the first couple of days she was setting but I sneaked a peak in there on Sun and she had just her golf balls. I'll check again before I give her the Wy eggs. I swore off incubators last spring though I am ready to fire one up if I need to. She is such a dedicated broody and mom I think she will do a great job again.

Alrighty! What's the most you or anyone else have ever given?

I have a Pita Pinta Story.

Yesterday I was reaching into the Brooder and one of the 12 week old Pita Pinta cockerels bit my hand. As soon as he bit me, his brother bopped him in the comb, telling him to knock that off! It was amazing how young and smart these guys are.

The one that was scolded by his brother ran from me when I tried to touch him, so he got the message. This morning there were no pecks of bites to my hand from the EO Basque and Pita Pintas in that Brooder.

More and more tempting those pita pinta. Also I am falling in love with Wheaton pendensenca.... The partridge colors are to similar to others I like. You know ,I believe I'm OCD on the color variety and patterns in my chicken yard!

Do any of you have BBS Ameraucanas or know anyone who does? I think I want a blue or a splash girl one day.

Do any if you have a broody hen you'd like to rehome? I have some Jersey Giants and Barred Rocks that are coming of age;). I would like to try to hatch some of their chicks the "the old fashioned way". The Giants are not exactly known for their broodiness.

I live in Turlock.

I am not sure about how many she can sit on but you can give me one when they hatch okay?

OH, and don't forget the mark your original twelve if she is an egg thief. That way you can take out the extras that she nabs.
