Here are some pics of the little black chick. Sex is a mystery. In CA greys the females hatch out darker than the males. This baby was coal black at birth and now at 2 weeks is getting some cuckoo pattern emerging so in that respect it seems like a pullet. Cockerels tend to have a head spot and in that one pic the way it is standing might indicate boy as well. On the other hand I was sure every one of my CA greys were mis sexed because, even though they were pullets, they behaved like boys which this little one does as well.

One SPW is definitely more yellow and the other is more grey. No idea if that means anything but they are sure sturdy little things. So here they are if you can stand it, and even if you can't.

I think the one i the middle is a Cockerel.

The chicks are not pure California Gray?

I don't know if it holds true with CA Grays after the mixture of breeds, but with a barred rock you can sex them as soon as their wing feathers come in. A pullet, the black and white bar will be the same width, giving them an overall darker appearance. A cockerel, the white bar will be wider than the black bar, making them look lighter overall.

But I don't know if that holds true with the CA Grays. But if it does hold true, I'd call that a pullet.

No the two Silver Penciled Wyandottes are supposed to be pure and I have no reason to believe they aren't. The little black one has a Delaware daddy (ozzie) and a CA Grey mommy (blanche). I am a little excited to have more of the Ozzie and Blanche union eggs hatch. I would love to figure out if there is a sex link. They would be great egg birds for sure and I imagine the cockerels would dress out well. Tom wants to keep this baby regardless since he was the first to see it, it was the first to hatch and it's little personality has him calling it El Diablo

I am eventually going to replace my Icelandics with CA Greys because I like them more...that is unless I can find some cool looking Icelandics that will fit in with a black, white, grey, blue, silver and red color pallet

In CA greys the pullets are darker and this baby was black as night when it hatched so I am pulling for pullet too.

I have seen Swedish flower Hens that would fit that color pallet.
