Well, apparently I've lost the ability to quote again

Last time it just came back on it's own, so I'll assume it will again

Anyway, thanks Jules. We don't have a TSC, but just a few days ago in the local paper, they discussed that one is seeking the necessary permits to take over the local newspaper building. It's already zones commericial, but they need permits for displays in the parking lot. It used to be a Blue Shield processing center (I used to work there), before that it was a Safeway. I've lived in this town since the 70's. It's funny when you see businesses switch over. And us old timers still refer to some locals as the old name. Like you say................"The Dollar Store, you know Beno's"

Thanks Lawatt. The link is perfect for me to shop for them. I'm just looking for drying pens after I bathe the birds.

Well confession time...I'm so crazy busy this week. I candled eggs before I was supposed to lock them down yesterday. Instead of putting them back in the bator. I left the tray inside the closet (where I candle!!)

So they were coldish when I discovered my mistake. I quickly put them in the bator but who knows now if any will hatch!! 22 partridge brahma eggs and langshan eggs

Oh no! *fingers crossed*

Oh no, I did that last hatch but with just two cochins that somehow I set aside and didn't put back in, I didn't find them til three days later so they were long gone. But three hatches ago, my kids blew a circuit playing with fans and I had no power for about 15 hours. found the eggs all cold. thought they were long gone but over 80% hatched.

We're hoping with you!!!

I feed 7 people (4 kids and 3 adults) at supper time. Last night we had breakfast for dinner. French toast, scrambled eggs and smoothies. 32 eggs. 32. Thirty two. Come on chickens- lay! haha So I will have about 30 laying birds between the ducks and chickens. Maybe that isn't overkill. Dang! If we ate even 2 meals like that in a week...that's over 5 dozen eggs just for 2 meals. Not to mention stray hard boiled eggs, baked goods etc throughout the week.

The thermometer won't work with the eco glow
Thanks Ron!

This is Joe Cocker our BO cockerel. haha

random cockerel. he was being silly hopping on that and making it swing.

and then eyeballing the grub.

this is one of my pretty little BO pullets. 7 weeks old now I think? Or 8? lol

random shot of my daughter and one of my goslings- Chuck.

My big girls- I think they are over 4 months old- although I am not totally sure of their age. Not quite to the point of laying.

I took some more but these are my faves from today. :) Hope everyone is well!
I absolutely LOVE when you post pictures.. Although it makes me reconsider posting my crappy cell phone pics! haha. Love these two pictures! Your BO's are gorgeous and look sooo soft!

Copper. One of our little BCM cockerels
Love the copper colored contrast on him!

Oh my gosh I totally forgot to close their run door and turn their misters off last night. I felt so horrible this morning. The chickens however were very very happy about both things. LOL They do love the mister- so glad we put one in!
I've never forgotten to close the coop door but I have left the misters on a couple of times until 11 p.m.! I need to get better at that! So glad your guys are ok!

Then I found a beer bottle next to my chickens coop, then another beer bottle at the second coop. Guess they didn't like the roosters!

Bahaha! Party at the chicken coop!

Years ago, I had a ginger cat named Odie too! I was driving home one night late, and saw a squished cat in the road, lying right on the paint line. Just as I drove by, I thought I saw it's head pop up. So I had to go back and take a look (it was a 55mph country road). I pointed my head lights out there so I could see and took my jacket to wrap it up so I could lift him (I didn't want to be bit/clawed by an injured cat. I brought him home, he had been hit right across the middle his back, there was a lot of swelling and he was paralyzed at mid body. I let him rest in a quiet dark place. Over the next two days the swelling subsided and he regained use of his back legs. I named him Odie (my favorite Garfield character) and I had him for many years. Loved that cat, he slept curled up on the bed each night.

Maybe you could post it here. That was the issue I had with two turkey poults.

What a cool story Deb!

From my limited experience with chickens (a year of solid research and enjoyment-LOL) I would recommend the Plymouth Barred Rock. We also love our "Rocky" girl, but she is a bit more independant than the Buff Orp (still sweet though). Rocky is a BIG girl so would make a nice dual-purpose bird and she lays the biggest brown egg of our 3 laying breeds. She never acts broody and even gets a little irritated with Buffy when she is-hehe! Rocky is the top hen and as a plus...Barred Rocks are very beautiful birds and the roosters are gorgeous!

Here's Rocky during the spring. (Sorry my photo is blurry and aren't as nice as yours.

You can post pics all day and I wouldn't mind!)
Look at all that yummy stuff for them eat! My yard stays dirt all year around it seems like!

My new additions! Sweetgrass turkeys! I'm so darn excited - I've been wanting to try them out before I go and build a whole coop for them.

OMG HOW CUTE!!! Please post pictures as they grow so I can live vicariously through you! :)

hooray, home from meeting Cheryl at the Omelet Ranch (thanks, Cheryl!) with my two lovely silver penciled rocks -- haven't quite decided on names yet, but trying to get them settled in inside their separate-but-equal pen within the coop's run:

they are just about the same size as the other three (daisy the australorp is still a good bit smaller), but with HUGE feet -- and so far one of the rocks has had a few through-the-bars stand-offs with one of the bossy marans (ethel), but no major trouble. they're so wonderfully beautiful!!

off to take two handfuls of spinach to the gang...
laura
Congrats Laura! I have three of their sisters :) They are so beautiful and soft! Great holding pen by the way. I need one of those!

Hi! I'm new to this thread. What's up?. Does anyone live in or near Denair? Just want to feel welcome.
Welcome to the thread!

Thank you for the tips. I really only want one Broody. I am sorry you have so many this year. You probably won't have as many next year.
I want just one broody as well! I'm hoping one of SPPR's goes broody. I love to experience nature at work!

This is a picture of my two best Basque Cockerels.

This one has pullets in the picture:

Handsome roo's Ron! Are these brothers to my Chema? How many Basque's do you have now that you're keeping?

Yes!

23 are going into lockdown.

13 EO Marraduna Basque(no surprise there)
8 Pita Pintas
2 Pennes

Disapointed about the Pennes but I have heard they are tough. I eggtopsied(cracked open) the most promising clear looking one and there was only yellow.

I hope they both hatch.

Candling shows mostly an air cell and a dark mass. I did see veins and some movement in some. This is what the camera saw:

Good luck Ron!!! Very exciting!!

I see more chicken math in my future!

We use four eggs for breakfast each morning, plus whatever I use for cooking/baking. I sell a few extra dozen per week at work and have friends and family that I supply their eggs for free.

I just gave away five dozen eggs. I have seven dozen in the fridge. I have two dozen boiling on the stove to feed back to the girls. I've been giving my buyers an 18 count when they buy a dozen (I call it the frequent buyer bonus). I've been packing peewee/small pullet eggs and giving them to people with little kids (thought they'd find kid size eggs fun).

I haven't yet collected my afternoon eggs today.

I have eight more pens of birds that are just getting to the point of lay (all my other eggs are from three pens).

I see a lot more boiled eggs in store for my girls. Of course, I'd be complaining if I wasn't getting eggs...................

Don'tcha just love chickens!
