How do I get on the list? Does UofA still raise them? I would assume they were bred to possibly lay more than the existing blue egg layers? What is their temperament like?

You've tempted me with yet another breed created by poultry scientists. B^)
Oh yes! The do lay more than most Blue egg layers. Just a bit more than Cream Legbars at least.

No, the UofA program is closed. Eggs were released first to 4-H Kids and then to some local Breeders. @caj1985 is the only person I know of that has them in Arkansas.

They are a bit flighty but not too bad. They are not pets and do forage well. The Roosters are not Aggressive so far.

Let me know if you want to get on my list.

@juststruttin I think, asked if anyone had a positive float test report from their flock for worms. Over a year ago I sold a couple of FBCMarans to a co worker. They were having some issues that seemed like Worms or Cocci. He treated for Cocci and later sent in a Manure sample to UCD. The test came back positive for Round Worms, so they are apparently in the soil in Woodland.

He is going to treat with Valbazen.

The Hens responded to the corid and are laying eggs again.
Thanks Ron. Does Corid kill worms? If so, good to know. I have a 12 week old Sulmtaler that looked lethargic so she has been on Corid for three days. I also put a heat lamp in her coop to help her stay warm. She looks great now. Corid is amazing stuff.

Glad you got some. You are always so generous. I am not in the market for more breeds, but love the idea of more blue egg laying varieties.

The Corid was for the Cocci they had too.

I had him treat with it first and had him test before worming to make sure they had worms.

Have you created any olive eggers with the UofA's? If they lay better than the CL, that would be good. But wouldn't be visually sexable

She is probably staying off of here because we are big enablers and she is trying to scale back her flock.

Let us know what you find out!
Yes! You all are enablers lol!! I started of with just Marans and Ameraucanas. Now I'm trying to figure how I can have CL, pendescas( I don't even know how to spell them but you've made me want them) and UofAs!! I did add the Bresse by the way! :)

One of my 10 week old Silkie chicks looked sluggish and felt like she was loosing weight. No indication of Cocci, but to be safe I put all the chicks in that house (GCMs and Silkies) on Corid. They are on their 3rd day and ALL of them act spunkier and are eating a lot more food!

Yes! The Marans were over a year old and one of them had most of the Cocci symptoms but Blood. I told them that only 2 of the 5 strains had blood as a symptom. The Sickest one was back to eating by the second day.

I had them treat for Corid because based on the symptoms, the sick Hen was close to death. Now for the worm medicine for Float test confirmed worms!
