I gotta ask.. W t f is a kune kune pig???
OMG, they are the cutest pigs ever, and they get along with chickens. That says a lot since most pigs will eat chickens.

The Kune Kune are considered "small" pigs but they are not potbellies. I saw them at the Heirloom festival in July 2012 and have not stopped thinking about them since. I figure the best way to get over my obsession is to give in to it.

fantastic -- i'd be happy to help organize, just let me know!

and hurrah, got my first egg today from my lone araucana pullet, she's been -- by FAR -- the slowest-developing of last year's chicks, i think she's around 35 weeks old -- but it was worth the wait, as it's a gorgeous color:

hers is the one in the center, a really *bright* turquoise. now i'm starting to wonder what a duckwing araucana/isbar cross would look like...? might have to find out!

(in case of interest, the other eggs, going clockwise from the top, are from the isbar/marans OE, two SPPRs, then an Amelia egg at the bottom, another SPPR, and a marans egg)

Very nice eggs!

Lovely collection of eggs.

I collected 18 eggs to set tonight and dropped the entire carton..... I kid you not.   Some did not break, but I am pretty sure they are scambled.  If I set them,  will they make frizzled chicks?  Just curious.  ;)
isn't that how it goes when your trying to be careful??

I think you've answered your own question on this post. You want them, so I say go ahead! There's really no reason not to. They get alon with chickens, adorable and small. There you go, I've enabled you.
I just lety DH in on my secret plan to add to our flock. I was talking about coops and he said "ya, but yours is really nice why would you want to change it?" My response was " oh I don't want a DIFFERENT coop . I need ANOTHER one to grow out my extra roosters."
There was a long pause... And he said "oh, ok" . So it's a go! I want him to think its for TEMPORARY roosters ;)

Thank you. Not sure what is wrong yet.

Quote: My comment was for birds that were bred from homozygous Blue to homozygous Brown egg layers - and then bred back to blue or brown egg layers. Your egg appears to be tinted - is this correct? It is possible that adding the blue egg gene back in will create a turquoise egg - there is a tint that makes the blue much more vibrant and does not appear green. I suspect some of the hatcheries' birds are not homozygous for the Blue egg gene (and carry only one gene), and you can loose the blue in one generation with this type of breeding.
