California - Northern

Yes!

Keep treating it until the bottom heals.

Thank you Ron.

My girl Norma didn't coop last night. She has done that before and has always been there in the morning. But I didn't see any sign of her this morning. It is possible she is off somewhere sitting on eggs since she did go broody in a flower pot several weeks back. I hope she surfaces today or in 20 days with babies in tow.

Also I have a line on nankin, mottled/frizzed cochin and silver and colombian sussex hatching eggs so I am excited for broody fever to hit. I just hope we enough nest boxes when it does.

On a sad note Norma didn't coop last night. She has done that before and has always been there in the morning. But I didn't see any sign of her this morning. I hope she shows up!

If you did not find a pile of feathers, there is a good chance for her.

They may like food with a higher corn content.   I feed my chickens corn and soy free food.  They did not like when I switched but they eat it now.  If you want to stick with corn,  Hunt and Behrens Feed has a high corn content, or I guess look for any brand with Corn as the first ingredient.

Alright!! Thank you.

Alright!! Thank you.

Yes! I am so relieved. Thank you. I am trying to get them away from the mash to the crumble!!
Corn all the time is not supposed to be ideal for chickens. From what I have found, Wheat is the only grain that chickens can have all the time. Wheat is also close to layer in protein and can be used to make chicken feed bills a bit lower. Azure sells Organic wheat, 50#s for $14.00. Organic layer is usually $34.00 for 50 #s. The chickens do very will fed this way too.

If you change their feed and they seem hesitant, give them a couple of days. They will get over it and eat the new food.

I know Stockton is the big show, and so everyone is focussing on that right now (whether they can go or not), but is anyone going to the Humboldt Poultry Fanciers Association winter show? Other than @OR4-hmom and my family? It's at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale on February 7-9, so 2 weeks after Stockton. I figure, since people are doing presales for Stockton, maybe some presales could be arranged for that, too?
We might go. But stockton is the largest show in the state that's why you see pre sales.
I would like two that watch out for danger, that are your largest size. Egg amounts are not important to me right now. In Mountain Ranch they will need to be in a large fenced yard unless I am out. I saw a small dog at our place today and another down the road unleashed. I need a guard chicken!
Do you have guineas or a good rooster? They are both great but loud.

I wish good thoughts for you!

Hi!

I hope this is the right place for me to post! I just joined BYC last night, after having chickens for a little over a year. We are located in Acampo, just outside of Lodi & Stockton!
