California - Northern

Oh I just saw this. That is good news if I could breed for production. I too, heard the darker eggs move slower. These girls laid early for their breed . Born last April, laid in mid Sept. I'm putting a light out for the mornings now. It's just frustrating because I had Marans I thought lay better than these and they're such pretty birds !!

Yes! It is hard to breed for three things but if you focused on just Marans you could do it.

Birds to SOP
Eggs for darkness
Production for egg and or Meat

If successful, you would have an amazing line!

Hi all! I'm from Sebastopol (Sonoma County) and new to the forum. I just bought my first two chickens (a baby golden sexlink and an Austrolorp as well as two crested pekin duckling? We are planning to get a few more chickens for dual egg/pet purposes. I am just in love with them. Looking forward to learning and sharing,

Welcome to BYC and to the best thread out there ;)

Ok, I was VERY proud of my husband today. We went to Costco and there was a kids little wooden playhouse. He said "hey that would make a great chicken coop! Just put some chicken wire on the windows and you're set!"
Love him!
I saw that playhouse and told my DH the same thing! It would make a nice coop for a breeding pair or trio. Or for a few of the bantams that my daughter wants!
