Okay! My hatch is complete! Both of the 2 late set/staggered hatch eggs hatched so I had 12 out of 13 hatch! The last one hatched yesterday and it incubated at 62% humidity with no turning for days 16-21. Here are some pics of my Pita Pinta/Langshan cross chicks. Aren't they adorable?!!!

They look the most like a blue Langshan but have some dark markings on their heads and beaks that look like the Pitas. The first one that hatched had black lines under its eyes just like a football player.

First 5 chicks (4 are 3 days old and 1 is 1 1/2 days old)

Final baby just hours old.
Totally adorable. I also am looking forwards to seeing them grow up. I think I may have to have some :)

You guys are making me want to get a hatch going!   My problem is finding eggs.  I have a hen going broody, but am looking for very dark Blue or Black Copper Marans eggs.  I saw an auction on here yesterday for some gorgeous Mottled Ameraucana Project eggs, but it was not open to anyone in California... :th

I saw those too & almost died

That poor thread went crazy! But FYI she always does that and has answered the question several times just wasn't around yesterday to answer. I also recomend if you get really dark marans eggs watch the air cells or weigh. Anything over a 7 is a hassle to hatch. I actually aim for 79 as I like to hatch and got all sorts of grief from the 8s.

Yes ...it certainly did go crazy! Glad it's over now. I feel bad for my part in it, but it's kind of like someone saying "Everyone gets free ice cream, except those people with brown hair". It's frustrating when they are such gorgeous chickens but they are saying we can't bid on the eggs with no explanation as to why. I will have to go back thru the thread and try to find where she explained why not. It's a loooong thread though so it might take me a while. I did PM here and got a reply this morning saying I she would put me on the waiting list, so that made me happy.

I have 4 Marans and they are laying what looks to me like about 4-5, but may not even be that dark. The eggs in the picture are about 2 weeks old. The girls just started laying in early January and I am approaching a total of 30 eggs from all 4 now. I don't know if they will get darker. I was hoping to get some that lay darker eggs and, while I know hatching from dark eggs doesn't guarantee they will lay dark ones, I hear it increases the chances. I can't have roosters here so can't raise my own. I have to depend on getting them from someone else. Do you klnow if there is any difference in hatch rate using a good broody versus a bator?

So cute! Was the 62% humidity the whole time? I see different people doing different humidities and curious how they all turn out.
For the first and larger group of eggs, the humidity was around 42-45% until day 18 then 52-55% until hatching began. It stayed at 62% during hatch. The last 2 eggs were staggered hatch and were started 2 and 3 days after the other eggs. I turned off the turner at day 19 (day 17 and 16 for the last 2) because I didn't want to have to open the incubator while the larger group of eggs was hatching. This was the most hands off hatch that I have ever had and the best hatch rate. Set 14 eggs, 13 made it to lock down, and 12 hatched. I just left them alone and didn't have to help any of them. All 12 are healthy with no foot problems. I think that in the past, I have rushed in to help before it was necessary.

Papa Brooder has marans eggs right?
OH MY GOD I NEED PINK EGG LAYERS

Me too. One of my Delawares lays an egg with a pink bloom it is very pretty but not as obvious as what we see in this picture. I am going to hatch some of her eggs even though she is missing a toenail b/c she lays so well and the color is so great.

I want to hatch some more but my Splash girl is either not laying now or she is laying somewhere in the yard. My Pita Pinta cockerel now has a harem of Cream Legbars that follow him around. They seem to tolerate being jumped more than the other girls. The Pita Pinta girls are not quite at POL so they don't want anything to do with him. I also have 3 Wellies and he chases them around the yard but they scream like they are being murdered while running away from him. I love watching it all!

He does...and he posted a picture of them, but they look pretty close to the color of mine. I was hoping for darker. I still might get some from him if I can't find any that are closer to what I am looking for. He is pretty close to me (up in Redding) so they should get her pretty quick if I do order from him.
