Check the thermometer--Use a thermometer for taking your temperature and see what it reads in the incubator and the compare it to the incubator.

Was there a temperature spike about day 12? That may have been what did it.

The best way to avoid temperature spikes is to keep the room at the same temperature all the time. I use a portable heater in the closet to stabilize temperatures. The heater has a thermostat.

@ronott1 im not sure i dont think so if im correct the spikes happened after like day 14. The incubator is in our living room and is usually at 100-101 during the day then at night gets covered and usually the next morning the temp is like 97-99 our house is warmed by a wood stove so none of the rooms are really a "stable temp" all the time

You might need to wait until it warms up then.

99 to 100 would be fine. If the temps are really 97 to 98 and the go down as low as 95 at night, then that would bad.

Covering might be a problem too--eggs need Oxygen, especially after the second week.

Yes...they "Valley Girl" came thru loud and clear!

... I agree they deserve their own name....how about "Easter Eggers"??? Don't you think that is a novel idea??? It sure would decrease the number of disappointed customers........and that is always a good thing! .

Yes Easter Egger, Sorry I should have said a name the Hatcheries actually use. When the hatcheries refer to them as Ameracaunas it just confuses everyone.

Try to keep warm and dry. Sometimes there is no opportunity to wait.
After the mess we had in Dec. I'm happy if what's falling isn't frozen! My paths were small streams, much better than the packed snow and ice before. They were nice to me today and didn't make messes in the waterers, Good Day!

I cover them but i make sure the ventalation holes arent covered. It usually gets to about 60ish in the house at night which would put the temp in the bator at about 98-100 ish if im correct. its warmed up quite a bit since those eggs were set. hoprfully this time will have a better outcome. i set the new eggs a few mins ago now im just watching the temp of the bator to come back up (it dropped a littlee when i put the eggs in it)
Are the eggs okay not being turned at night?

If that were done names would be needed for the chicks sold at feed stores. ISH after barred rock, RIR maybe.

Hmm… would LOVE if she taught! I may shoot an email.

On another note… Does anyone know of easy directions for Mareks vaccine for baby chicks? Never done chicks before and was going to sell these. My feed store says they carry it for about $11.00 . not sure if that comes with the needles or not. Is there a certain size needle I need?

Chicks should hatch, I'm thinking monday. But when my broody hatched out, one was 2 days early. So I'm prepared

Really appreciate all the help on this thread. Learned years worth of info just being on here. Everyone is so helpful. Love this thread

$11 is a great price. Hunt and Behrens sells it for $18+, and no it does not come with the needles. Needles are only about .25 cents and syringes are cheap too. The vaccine recommends #.22 needle but I use the #.25. It is smaller and the chicks barely notice it. You can also use diabetic needles but they are so thin they often bend in the rubber stopper so you will need backups.

Your local Police Dept. may have a vaccine drop off for your left over vaccine.
