California - Northern

If you guys want to wait til May we set the date for the Chicken party for May 18th here at my house in Turlock. Hopefully people can make previous arrangements & we can all trade, buy, sell eggs chicks, etc while we are here having fun together.
We invited Walt when we saw him at the Fresno show yesterday &he said he would make a note of the date & we met some new people from other places too.
Teresa ended up not going but Julie & I had fun at our table. It was so nice to be able to sit......LOL
I picked up another Brown Leghorn from the Paso Robles breeder (Deborah Kunic) for myself & a pullet for Wendy too. She said they are great & from really good bloodlines Gene Helton. I know nothing about Leghorn lines so I guess I will learn. Julie said that Deborah show birds did well at the show.
Walt gave Julie & I an education on the differences of Australorps & Orpingtons. So nice having an educated resource to help point things out. I was studying the SOP text trying to decipher when I should have been looking at the pictures.....LOL. I have had both but am loving the Orpingtons more & more. I just guess I love big fluffy bums & they are great layers for me to.
The attendance at the show seemed smaller to Julie & I but I missed last year & now they split the 4Hers to another building so I suppose that makes a big difference.
May 18th sounds so fun! It's my mother's birthday. She loves chickens and has invested in our farm because she can't have her own. Well, she has a Brabanter cockerel that is HERS but he lives on our farm. Anyway, I'd love to bring her. Will that be okay?

Okay, just in case you haven't already read...The Chicken party at my house here in Turlock has been set for May 18th 11 a.m.
I will do roasters full of some kind of chicken like last time.
Bring side dishes like salads, casseroles, fruits, veggies etc. Or you can bring desserts, soft drinks and snacks.
We will have a free raffle again so if you have anything chicken related you want to donate feel free.......... we accept all donations....LOL
I hope to have a fodder feeder set up & a greens tray with a wire top for inside the pens & put them on the raffle table & crafts of course....
My daughter says the snow cone machine is still doing great & I have lots of different syrups for it. The kids loved that last time.
Cari (my daughter) wants to get a cotton candy machine. She has lots of kids parties out at the pool.
The kids all had fun swimming last time while we all "chicken talked" so be sure to bring swimsuits & towels for them.
I hope a lot of you can set up trades, buys, sells of all different chicks, eggs, etc. I am hopping to get a few new, never had before breeds just for different pullets for the layer pen...........maybe Caliornia Grays, Pinta Pitas, Cream Legbars, and Isbars. ....LOL a lady can dream can't she????......LOL
We try to do a meet & greet go round to make sure everyone knows who & "where from" everyone is & what breeds they have.
Anyone that can come please RSVP to me on private message or call 209-667-6667 and let me know. I will be keeping track to have tables & chairs etc.....
Please feel free to share any fun ideas or suggestions with us. Any questions please contact me. Julie & Teresa from Madera are helping too.

I am bummed, I cannot make it. I am hosting a Cream Legbar gathering at my house that weekend.

Attention Local Cream Legbar owners/breeders

I will be hosting a Cream Legbar gathering in Novato on May 17th at 9am. Walt Lenard (Fowlman01) will attend to offer evaluation and instruction.

So far, we are expecting 15-20 birds, but would love for more people to bring their Cream Legbars. If you are a breeder, wanting to breed toward the standard this is a great opportunity for you to understand the strengths and weaknesses of your line so you know what to focus on.

For anyone interested in attending, and bringing bird please PM me. I will reply with more information about the event and a link to the Club website where you can register . Attendance is FREE.

Okay im fine with delayed just not dead . i think what else happened was the cover i usually put on the bator fell off and left it exposed to cold. the temp is corrected and back up to 100 now and the eggd are 2 days old

I would be more concerned with the fact that your bator could drop to 80 degrees. I would suspect that means the temp fluctuates quit a bit which is not ideal for birds. Where is your incubator located? Do you have it near a window or door? I would try to move it where the temp is more stable but if that is not possible, consider covering it with a towel or some sort of insulation to reduce temp fluctuation. Be careful NOT to cover up any vents.

Ok status update: no more deaths overnight they are still pooping blood but there is regular poop mixed in. The two sickest ones are still standing huddled. They are hungry.
Liz, I am really sorry to hear about your sick babies. Glad to hear they are doing better.
