Your Genesis is the old style and does not have a built in hygrometer. It is working fine and holding steady temps. I will be candling on Friday but I already candled and saw development already(yesterday) in both dorking and Delaware eggs.

The first batch of Delaware eggs have been set for hatching! Waiting for pips now.....
Lots of good news, thanks! Since the price on that incubator was relatively low, I kept thinking something must be wrong with it. So excited about chicks! Glad that this batch of Dork eggs are fertile. Apparently, that male needs to watch some action before he gets fertile ... second year in a row.

11 piglets born on Monday, chicks coming this week, lambs sometime soon ... calves maybe, too.

Yes!

There may be a time of year thing going on too.

Congratulations on all the new babies!

Saw your ad on Craiglist Kim. How exciting so many different animals. Sounds like way to much work for me but my husband has been wanting to cut down on the Hereford cows & maybe do something else instead but we can't decide what. We only have about 4 acres of pasture out there & my chickens are housed completely separate from that. My daughter wanted to do Olive trees for Olive oil but processing is too pricey. We have enough chickens already.....LOL

I used Sulmet last year on the chicks that I got from you.  All the girls (Cream Legbars, CL mixes, Wellies) are happily running around my backyard and showing no negative side effects at this point.  I just would like to know what I should be watching for in the future.

So the S drug is not as damaging?  Would you treat the whole group or just the one sick one?

Liver damage. More likely to get fatty liver thingie but I think you already feed around that.
If the organs had been damaged you would know by now.

It is good to know that it worked.

Does the resistant cocci show blood in the stool?

Corid works great at my place so far.

I dont get blood in the stool. I do think we might have something unusual.

My sick chick looked fine yesterday morning when I put them in an outside pen to play. By the afternoon, she was huddled in a corner. When I picked her up to bring her in, I noticed bloody poo under her vent. She got a spa treatment and had some normal droppings but then more bloody poo. She is eating and drinking this morning but her butt has runny poop with a little blood on it. Hopefully she will respond to the S medicine. She is a sweet little thing!

She is a Bresse? They are tough little things so hopefully she will recover. Eating and drinking is a good sign.

Here is an interesting article on fatty liver disease in birds. I have been doing some of the recommended things to help prevent this problem since I had a couple birds with it. I feed my flock sprouted grains every day and also have been mixing organic milk thistle seed powder into their morning feed mash. I'll have to check some of the other things recommended on this site.

I've been enjoying this beautiful day before the rains come. Cleaning chicken houses and taking pictures of my chickens. Everything is getting so pretty and green. Can't wait for the oaks to get their leaves. The new ones are always so bright green!

Pictures of my Silkies from Catdance. Silly birds won't jump up/down the step into/out of the chicken house so I had to get a load of dirt and put three shorter steps in so they will go in and out.

What they lack in brains they make up with fluffy cuteness

Lavender pullet~

Funny Porcelain pullet decided she would try for a piece of grass while I was trying to get her to pose for a picture!
Beautiful birds

Quote: Can someone explain why medicated starter is not good for chicks? It was recommended by the chicken-guy at our feed store, but I am wondering what the risks are in using it.

The rain does turn the moss on the rocks green and makes them look so pretty. We have the moss rocks all around our house. The house overlooks a creek with more beautiful, big rocks. It gets pretty wild when it rains! Fun to watch.

Candy, that is beautiful! So are your Silkies.

Here is your Buff/wheaten cross. She went broody 3 times last year, a very determined hen! Just wanted to show you how beautifully her beard and muffs came in this year (the wheaten girl also, but she doesn't like the camera!). The pictures don't do it justice, but the beard is huge.

My youngster is now obsessing over d'Anvers. I was wondering, if this hen goes broody this year, would you have any hatching d'Anvers eggs to sell? I recently got 2 sweet bantam Cochins from Chooklet, so they might be good brooders too. Also got a Silkie as another broody option.

We think d'Anvers could hang with the Serama flock.

The rooster is sweet. This is his party trick!

Hope all is well with you!
