We called cackle and they said alot if people are losing chicks to the cold. i find it odd that theyse chicks are almost dying in pairs

Well...I hope they are suspending shipments until it warms back up. It doesn't make sense to ship chicks when you know they have a good chance of not making it..

You even have your name in your signature....so no excuses! Some people don't have it there and it's not on their profile either, so I usually call them by their screen name...

Quote: Yes. I got my eyes on a digital being sold on ebay. Sent the data to the man and am waiting for approval :p He is even talking about building my more cages for selective breeding. And I have a friend starting an organic co-op I will be the egg lady so my hubby is now getting into this. Also since my birds are rare.

I did starts a thread about my low hatch rate. I know it's not nutrition. I think it may be my incubator.

I spent all mornign fixing a draniage problem. We live on a hill and I think gophers filled in the space under my chicken barn. There was 2 inches of water in the bottom of it! What a night mare. I was covered in muddy poo water litteraly. I had to result to the hose to get the drainage back. Bleh. shuvel shovel scrape scrape. I am pooped :p

My hen that is hatching chicks right now is constantly going broody. Sometimes i can get her to give up by just taking her off the nest and throwing her out in the yard every time I catch her in the nest, but I think it just postpones the broodiness. She is also the top hen so whenever she goes broody everyone else jockeys for position. I even had one hen the started trying to crow when she went broody the first time.

I have had to delete a couple posts because I was afraid I was coming off too strong. The fact that chicks are being shipped in this weather disgusts me. The PO has regulations about shipping when it is too hot, there should also be regulations about shipping when it is too cold.

Nikki I am really sorry you and your chicks are going through this. I hope the remaining chicks survive.
