I have good luck cleaning them up with warm water and a q-tip. Go slow and easy, try and get the feathers on their bottoms dried off so you aren't leaving them with a bullseye on their bottom.
Yea im left with 1 black silkie and i think 3-4 white silkies.
whats weird is in all of this none of my buff brahmas doed. If we get a few more from cackle im replacing a few birds (mostly the doms) since we would have to get 25 i was thinking gold laced and blue cochin bamtams, japanse bantams, and bllack and buff silkies. would all of those do okay in ssnow?
I have bantam buff Brahmas and they are a very hardy breed. That is probably why you didn't loose any. Any fluffy breed will do well in the snow. I do not know anything about the Japanese bantams though. I am thinking about getting some blue tailed white Japanese in the future and hope they are hardy.
I am thinking I am only going to end up with 12 mixed from these. 11 have hatched and the one Mottled AM has pipped and is working on getting out. I started with 33. I removed 4 or 5 clears at about 7 days. 2 OE broke under the broody fairly early on, but looked infertile. I removed one cracked one yesterday that was an early death. I had a few other sloshy ones that had an early death and I have 2 more OE, 3 more mottled AM and 4 more Marans that are still in the 'bator but not really doing anything yet. I will leave them a couple more days. Today is day 22.

I don't know miuch about the hardiness of the others. I know I had some Brahma's here and they did fine with cold. We only get snow a couple of times a year and it doesn't last very long, but it does get very cold in the winter (well...cold for me....in the 20s)
Quote: I just PM'd @Chickengirl1304 to ask that question. I don't see anything on any of the 3 that looks like muff. I'm gonna go look close at the combs.
OK...here are some close ups of combs. The first 2 are the one I am leaning toward Marans...although the legs are not feathered
These 2 are of the one I am leaning toward OE on. It seems a little smaller and less active so I think it was the last to hatch
I can crop these to a more "extreme closeup" of both of them if needed.
Please pay no attention to the small amount of nail polish on that thumb.
Any guesses on these combs...Marans vs Ameraucana?

If you like bantams you should consider Cochin Bantams. I hatched some gorgeous calico cochins from Chooklet .They are awesome little birds. They hatch well, are super hardy sweet friendly birds.
