Quote: I am in the foothills just outside of Chico. I think it's about 3-4 hours to Lake County from here. I had a friend who owned a pet store in Clear Lake and it seems like that is how long it took when I went to see her. She passed away last year though. I don't know where PetRock lives. I keep having to look at the info under everyones screenname. I do remember where Ron is and Chickee, (only because I drove down to get chickens from her).

okay, here are the chicks!

two silver campines -- a third has hatched (that's 3 out of 3 eggs set, hooray!), but only about ten minutes ago, so it's still drying out in the incubator

and three blue isbar/SFH crosses (also 3 out of 3, double hooray!) -- one splash and two blacks. will be very interested to watch them grow & see if the distinctive mottling from the SFH side kicks in...!
Adorable!!!! I love chick pictures!

@Audio51 , to make the pictures hidden you click on the "spoiler" icon in the tool bar, it's the 3rd to the right of the smiley icon.

Quote: There are six in there after the one died. Some are already getting mottled feathers at the wing tips. I also noticed one seems to have a little eye thing going on. Here is a close up. I don't know if it is just pasted partially closed. Some of the fluff still seems to have a some of the dried egg residue. I will see if I can clean it up with a Q-Tip and warm water and get a better look in a bit.

Ok...here are chick pictures. But I don't know how to post the eggtopsy pictures so they don't show up unless people want to look at them.
I also lost the little one that was not doing well last night. One of them was stepped on by the broody the day I removed the 7 smallest anf brought them in. I think it was this one so there may have been organ damage done at that time. It was one of the Marans.

They are Gorgeous!

Well, people are lazy. They want to get paid, but often don't want to work hard… Frustrating for sure.

Nisene Marks is gorgeous but I hate that they don't allow dogs on their trails. My husband and I usually take the dog up to De Laveaga and walk the trail from the softball park up to the disc gold course. Its beautiful!

Are you out in the country now or living in town? How many chickens do you have? This is my first year raising chickens. I have two 2-week old Barred Rocks, a 5 day old Ameraucana, and a 5 day old Gold Laced Wyandotte. I'm so excited, I've wanted chickens for years! Now that we finally have our own house and a large backyard we figured we should go for it. I hope the neighbors don't complain…

I love the Santa Cruz talk! I graduated from UCSC and earned my teaching credential there as well. My brother and SIL just retired in the last year. He was a captain in the UCSC Fire Dept and she ran the Graduate Student Services dept. They live on Swift st close to where the huge sink hole opened up.

@UrbanFarming I am happy that you finally got your birds. I remember the feeling when I got my first babies. It is so exciting. Sounds like you will have a lovely mixed flock!

It does look like egg goo. The eye looks good though. They get milky if the eye was damaged.

Holy cow!! At a week old. I heard them last night, and My hubby and I started looking around, like "what in the heck is that". It took us a while to figure it out.

I had NO idea... Makes me wonder what else I'm missing by moving the broody pen out of the house.
