California - Northern

That is good to hear that your crosses are good hatchers since I'm planning to hatch out some eggs from my flock and they'll be crosses. I'm hoping for a good hatch.
Sorry about your little chick. :(
The last group of Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar crosses that I hatched were very strong hatchers and all of them are mostly black at hatch & at almost 3 weeks. I don't have my PPs separated from my laying flock so not always sure who laid which brown egg. I was excited to see that the 4 that hatched from brown eggs this morning are PPs and mostly yellow(white) with some black. I'll get pics later to show you all.

I hope the friendliness genes get passed on. Yesterday I let the pullets out so that I could clean and move their tractor pen and one of them walked up the back of my leg!

My middle daughter saw one of them outside the sliding glass door, so she opened up the door and was able to pet it. They are by far the friendliest and quietest chickens.

For those of you with Pita Pintas, do you have the brown or the black (or both)?
I had never heard of them until I found this group. They are gorgeous.

Thank you for the welcome. :)
Those chocolate eggs are definitely beautiful. That's one of the colors I would like to add at some point. My sister, who's in Idaho, has had chicken for a number of years now, and she has quite the variety. She's even bred some olive eggers now.
I missed your original post FarmerJayne........................Welcome. I too graduated to breeding Olive Eggers & am loving it. Don't know where Acampo is but hope it is close enough that you can join us May 18 at the chicken party in Turlock.

Okay im gonna bump this because its annoying me lol
I see you got an answer from OR4-hMom but if you ever have 4H questions the 4H office is part of the Ag. Ext & they are a great resource for information on all 4H related things. I was a leader for 11 years while my kids grew up in 4H & talked with them frequently. I became phone friends with Debbie are local 4H secretary there.....LOL

The first chick is a New Heritage Del with Cross Beak.

Congratulations Ron.......I share your thrills.....LOL Do you keep the cross beaks? I was told to watch out for them by a "seasoned" breeder a long time ago but only got one so far.

Morning!

We did not feel it here.

But I was stupid and lost a hen last night

.

I have a silkie who seems to have recovered badly from wry neck she was very thin and seemed to have trouble eating and while she could move did not like to walk. She could not tell where anything was. I was tube feeding her last night (have been for about 5 days since I noticed something wrong) And put her back in the coop and did not lock up !

This morning there were white feathers at the window. She was the only silkie taken and I was very lucky. Im sad she died painfully But I was going to have to figure out something soon and clearly couldn't breed her.

Its been an interesting morning...

Sorry Shantih...............I hate having to make those decisions too. It was taken out of your hands.
Rain rain rain here in Modesto, and why does rain bring out the worst drivers, especially when I'm trying to drive to work lol.

I hate driving in the rain too. No matter how careful you are you worry about all the other drivers doing the same thing. I hope it doesn't rain Wednesday because we are taking a trip to Guinda to pick up my Delaware rooster. When Walt did a class a couple of years ago we drove to Santa Rosa area for it in a driving crazy rain I will never forget.

I hate not knowing who is laying what egg in the layer pen too..... Aaron set up a lone pen in back & I am going to start pulling a few out at a time & keeping them in there to identify the eggs from each girl & band them accordingly. I am always having people want to buy a few layers & I have accidently sold a couple I didn't want to..........LOL

Acampo is between Galt and Lodi, so just over an hour from Turlock according to mapquest. What is this chicken party you mentioned?

I hatched the Dels for @capayvalleychick This is the first one for me too. This one will not go into the breeding program and we will be keeping track of which Hen was the Mom. Kim is doing a special breeding program by Hen.
