hello folks! i've been away at a conference since last wednesday, so good to finally be home again -- and there are new chicks hatching! any advice on putting them in the same brooder (or not?) as some two-week-old chicks? will the littler ones be okay?

Welcome Back!

One week is almost always fine. Two week is usually fine. Make sure the new chicks are fully recovered from all of that hatching work and watch them.

Eco Glows help because the little ones can hang out under it.

thanks Ron -- I do have an EcoGlow, and it's set up so that one side is lower than the other -- and definitely will let the new chicks fluff up a bit in the incubator before adding.

ordinarily i start new chicks on paper towels, and only put them onto pine shavings after a few days -- but there's shavings in the brooder already, for the two-week-olds -- will it be a problem for the little ones to be on shavings so early?

This morning I set 14 shipped Serama eggs plus 6 of my own (why not?). Hope I get some to hatch.
