I have six of these plastic egg trays that came with my cabinet hatcher. I have been using them to incubate in the cabinet and also to store eggs on my counter. They do fit in my Genesis. Do any of you use them to hatch in your Hovabator? I like that they are reusable and can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

So 2 wks ago I had a (apx) 2 yr old MFL hen fall dead. She looked fine then "BLAM" dead. So I shipped her off. Tumors were the culprit according to UCDavis. Yesterday a 6 mo EOB pullet - beautiful ginger specimen, no known problems. BLAM. Dead. Shipping her off today. Kind of discouraged.

Between my Grandpa dying and all the ensuing (month long!!!!) company and then getting sick, I know the chickens havn't been getting the care they might need.

But usually the kids do a decent job and I walk around and remind them of the waterers they thought they could avoid filling.

Still a young beautiful bird, dead?

I ordered Oxine on Monday and I can't wait to scour everything, fog everyone, treat all the water, whatever it takes. I'm getting paranoid and turning into a chicken hypochondriac!
That is so sad!

If they were not Mareks tumors, they may be from a new cancer causing virus that is not Mareks. There was an email about it from a yahoo group. A Vet said it is devastating because it hits Two and younger year old Hens in their prime of laying.

Do you use Soy based feed? It likely will not stop virus cancers but it might help to not use Soy Protein.

So sorry about the birds.

At least you know the cause on the first one. Hope they can figure out the second and that it wasn't also tumors. Are they related? If not and it is was tumors for it too, I would be concerned.

Quote: Gaming? I had not clue there were gaming threads on BYC. That seems weird. Who would look for a gaming thread here?

Yes! those would work great in the Genesis. I have two that I have cut into different sizes.

I noticed two of the top sights are gaming? At least here we are chicken (farm, family, poultry lifestyle) support and education!
The Gaming sites are short lived compared to other threads. The have a lot of posts and then another gaming thread becomes popular.

It is mostly the young uns I think.

So the first 9 hatched no problem. The next 5 that pipped and or zipped for stuck...why? The membrane turned brown and they got dried and stuck why does this happen?

Just a heads up, Bradshaw Feed in the Sacramento area. Has over 10 varieties of chicks and they let you pick up your choice. They get a bunch more on Thurs.
Thanks for letting us know!

Do they have good prices on non-soy chicken feed? Organic or non GMO.

I use the paper cartons in my Farm Innovators for hatching, partly because they only take up 1/3 to 1/2 of the floor space. I have a little cardboard divider I put in next to the hatching carton (held in place by toothpicks that go thru the wire floor) and then I can quickly move hatched chicks over there to dry/fluff without bumping into the ones that haven't hatched yet.
