California - Northern

Liz its early but at that size with that small a comb base and the beautiful feather shape I say pullet. Ill try to get a pic of boy. Have fun at the show everyone!

Your can still join the Easter Hatch! Eggs set until Monday count for the totals too.

We need the numbers! Count those eggs!

The best hatch rate contest is closed but all other contests are running.
I will be using my older digital Hovabator. It has temp but not hygrometer so I use an external with a probe. I think it holds around 40 eggs. I will have to do a mixed hatch for that many eggs at once. I only bring in a total of a couple of dozen a day. I am thinking of using the dye method to mark them this time. Sarah Carso in Modesto is doing it with no ill effects. She is hatching 6 of my BCMs that I took to her at the last show . She needed eggs as a display. I told her to make mine green.

Months back I remember seeing a row of pens being built, I think they were capavalley's. I thought I had saved it but can't find it now. The set up was terrific other than the roof, we get to much rain The side by side design would really cut down on cost.
Kim @capayvalleychick has a very nice row of wooden/wire pens. I am sure she would share a picture if you asked.

Thanks folks, I saved a mental image of the set up. If we get a few birds of good type I hope to set up breeder pens for the bantams. I found some 6x6 pallets that I will repurposed. 6x12 should be a good size for them to roam around in without breaking the bank on roofing them.

Lizanne, I think she is quite pretty with the smooth feathers, of course I'm in the minority here, I was born without the silkie gene.
I like those smooth feathers too! Thank you for pointing out that it's a genetic issue

. No I am completely absolved. My lack of silkie love is my parents' fault

My DD is lacking it as well. The thought of trying to get a silkie ready for show is the stuff of nightmares, maybe if it was a partridge. No, I will not give in, clean legs only, clean legs only, clean legs only. Unless it's a dark Brahma bantam.

My son (@Coopcommander ) is getting into D'uccle's. What are we getting into? He wants to show. And my oldest daughter wants to show LF Dark Brahma. My 2nd daughter is considering the SFH. At least one of them will not have foot feathers!

Guess I need to set boundaries right up front so I'm not the one doing all the pedicures.
