I,m hoping early starts on tail feathers is a female trait for these chicks, 2 have little feather poofs at 3 days. The third chick is a day behind the others. Since the males have extreme tail feathers only time will tell.

I had my oldest DD take some pictures for me. They are one splash, a Crele Pene x UofA blue and two Blue UofA Blues.

Nice assortment of colors.

I am so sad....had the worst hatch ever. Out of 14 shipped eggs only had 6 make it to lockdown and only one hatched.

That is disappointing. The one time that I had eggs shipped to me, I got one cockerel out of 24 eggs.

Well, the eggs I was expecting arrived this morning safe and sound.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, they're Ayam Cemani.

You are going to be very popular and possibly rich, if those hatch.

I think the live birds are strikingly beautiful. The meat looks disgusting, though.

I've used an ostrich feather duster before. I hang it from the side of the cage so the bottom of the feathers just brush the bottom. The chickens snuggle right on in there.
The ostrich feather kind can be hard to find & are more expensive but they are the best & are worth it. I buy 2-3 when I find them.

This is a wonderful idea!

My life is so crazy busy. I have not had a good day to head that direction. Now that the rain stopped, I'm really going to try to make it, soon. Michele has probably given up on me!

Methinks I need a Tolbunt Polish. Trying to sell my least favorite hen to cover the cost. I don't dislike her, but I have never felt attached to her. I do think it's funny how she gets so into squatting for me, though. She pretty much lays down on the ground, it's hilarious.
Lol, anyone want to buy a Light Brahma?

They all arrived at the feed store Feb 26th (Wed) so if they are day olds then basically 6 weeks tomorrow.

They are apparently camera shy. The 2 pics of each bird trying to show what they will sit still for. If anyone has suggestions of how I should photo these let me know.



Next 2 as well and are of the half blind one



Next two are the same bird


And finally the one with the most neck color




Don't like to be picked up but are very calm being held.

They were more interested in chasing each other around when one grabbed a bundle of dried weed roots.

Hubby & I were going through photos I took a few months ago of some of my youngsters out freeranging. I couldn't figure out why he was laughing at this particular shot....



Until I enlarged it.........He decided my SPPR pullet was auditioning for a remake of The Exorcist
