Well crapples. Got home last evenin to find my two Roos in a tousle. They've grown up together and have been good together this far. One had a cut on the back of his pea comb and the other has a few cuts on his wattles. Looks like we need to make a Roo cave for one of them.

Blu kote and give them some time and space to work it out. If they can get a hirachy worked out they are usually ok.

How is the buff Ameraucana hen doing?

She's doing great! Laid every day save maybe two that she's been here. She prefers her 5gal plant bucket and wood shavings to her little roost I made her. We've been calling her Honey although she almost became Buffy the bug slayer.

Cuckoo is a little more smudgy looking. Barred markings should be straight and even. On a female, it's 50/50, black to white. On a male, the white is a little wider than the black, that's the reason a male looks lighter overall. It's also the reason you can sex them as soon as the wing feathers start to come in.

Thanks for the clarification Deb. I was hoping for more than just black but oh well. The smudgy look makes complete sense now.

That's funny!

The boys can be aggressive. I have a buff Columbian boy that goes after me quite often. The khaki quail sometimes and the porcelain never until he became head honcho recently. So, yes the roosters are known to be aggressive, but the hens make up for it by being the sweetest things ever!
Our girls were Cupcake and Little Miss Ickle and they were always underfoot trying to help, very sweet girls. The OEGB are more vocal.

I think one of my near 3 week old Buff Orps has been traumatized by the move to the garage and the introduction of the new chicks.
She was already the paranoid one when ever she was left alone in the box. She has developed a bit of a mean streak as of late. We had to separate her from the chicks but couldn't leave her alone so her more docile companion stayed with her. She apparently tries to bite now and again turning her in to quite the little drama queen. We shall see how she behaves this weekend. We may have to change the heat light for her. I was reading that the red light seems to make them more docil where as the white lite can lead to aggressiveness. I couldn't get a red light in time when we first got them so I picked up a white one and the del's who were older seemed fine with it. I hope to get the bigger brooder box finished this weekend so maybe we can give them all a good mount of space and separate them while still able to see each other. Maybe that will help and they can all get attention at the same time.

Only have 3 weeks now to get the new coop built. (4 if I push it).

I'm so grossed out right now one of my chickens has mites? Lice? I'm sure they all do. Ewww I have advantage for dogs and for cats will either of those work?
That would be lice. Mites feed at night and go back to the wood during the day. The advantage works if they are feeding on the skin. Feather mites that eat the feathers need to be sprayed or dusted with Seven and then a re treatment in 7 days. Food Grade DE will not get rid of them at this point.

Have you been having soft shelled eggs? If so, that will get better once the bugs are gone.
