Also by the way, I lost my only Easter Egger today. As I wen to feed and water them this morning I noticed she was acting very sluggish and her eyes were like death. She was alive but barely. She was sitting there as if she were broody, but in a very awkward place and so I wen to move her and a hole as big as a toilet paper roll opening was right at her hind end. I could see her insides and at that point she had lost too much blood to save. I laid her to rest finally at about 10 AM in a comfortable place. I can't imagine what got in their run last night. The only thing I can think that'd fit would be wither a snake or small rodent. Anyways in peace she is now. Just shocked. She was my favorite hen.
So sorry..........I don't usually make pets of my chickens but there are a couple that have a place in my heart & I will miss when they pass. It is terrible to have them go in such a tragic way though.

go figure. we are getting heavy snow. not sticking here. just up the road it is . i thought winter was over
Me too......My husband cancelled his irrigation today. We have about 1/2 inch of rain so far.

Put there feeder in something with a lip thwt can hop into.. I bet 50% of that is spillage! Bad seremas and your crazy feet.
Wb! Beautiful boy sorry you lost him.
Hugs. I can hatch out some of my project eggs for you you just have to let me inseminate some eggs from any blue egg laying silkies you get. Should give you a few blue egg layers that are broody little things too.
Those are random. Only worry if you get a lot of them.

My missing hen I did not say anything about because it was depressing returned!! We are covering all the screen on the porch with the weatheting paneling tonight . Those seremas are sneaky if you dont.
Huzzah googly eye!!
Aww. I'm up for that.

It was a replacement from a pair my daughters wanted as we went to buy feed for our egg layers. She just grew on me also was the bottom of the pecking order.

Poor thing. I have heard that skunks will reach up and rip out the whole reproductive tract to get at eggs.

I found a weird egg today. It has lots of grooves in it. I thought it was cracked at first, but it has grooved lines in the egg. What would cause that?

Yeah...I was down there for a Dr appt this morning and was just leaving Applebee's after lunch when that happened. It was so heavy I could barely see and the storm drains could not keep up with it. There were puddles halfway across the right hand lane of Forest Ave. It was kinda scary!!!

She dissapeared yesterday while I was on site. She was down behind 2 fences trying to get back. I don't know that she could have gotten Down there I still think she might have been grabbed by a juvie hawk and escaped. She clearly did not sleep well last night as she ate a ton and drank a ton and is now napping. She seemed ok I think if she had internal bleeding from being dropped she would have passed by now. But im still watching her. We loves us some googly eye!

How odd you bring that up. There were no eggs within her, but thing is; hardly and room to slither in there to eat at her in such a way.
