Those eggs came for the LA area? It is odd that they had such damage. I bet they did not use the Skyline of Wisher1000 packing method. It is sad--Packing differently can make a huge difference.

They come up from la by truck its much worse then flying.

Quote: These are the only shipped eggs I have ever gotten in cartons. Everyone else has done a pretty good job with them...packed in bubble wrap...even the pouches. I have been checking on some other threads and most seem to say the saddle cells usually hatch OK anyway. Is that your experience too?

not for me but the dark shipped eggs have a rougher time

They do hatch but not as well. Marking them is good because you can see if they pip in the wrong spot or not. Did you see any veins inside the air sack area? The chick may break one pipping if so. If the pip is a to far below the line, they can drown if they is too much liquid in the eggs.

I hope they make it!

Yes, good packing is even more necessary for ground shipped eggs.
That is what I was thinking. Bouncing around for 2 days can't be good for them. Maybe I just got lucky with the first batch.
Click on the link in my siggy and read the first shipping experiment. It was Wisher1000 shipping eggs to me. She did not know to use USPS so she shipped them ground--From Alabama over a holiday weekend. It took 8 or so days for the eggs to get to me.

They hatched great! Packing makes a huge difference and the packing used keeps the air cells from getting scrambled.

Jules @fortyfivefarm & I went up above Ron's to Kim's in Guinda not too long ago & now will be going up again in September to pick up Dexter heifers. I am so excited. Jules loves road trips. We are taking one today to @AlpineButterfly in Sunnyvale for her Chicken Birthday Party.....I better go get my deviled eggs done.

So glad you both could make it! I had a good time introducing my girls to everyone!

Thank you so much for having us up. We had a really nice time. It was great meeting you & the birthday girls (I wanted to kidnap Violet), as well as visiting with your other guests :-). I was telling my hubby all about your neat coop and run set-up. So much fun to talk chickens and meet other BYCers.

@chiqita you & Mario missed a good time :(

Yay!

I have some (old) pictures of my coop here:

Here are some photos of chicks from a Freedom Ranger Hen X with Sulmtaler Rooster. These chunky monkeys hatched 1/27 so they are 12 weeks old in this photos. You can see them next to Cream Legbars and Orpingtons of the same age in a couple of the photos.
