Ok just doublechecking before I make permethrin spray for 1 chicken.

You can't use advantage on chickens right?

Weird thing happened.
We have a small skunk around, which I thought may have moved on because now the dogs know it's there, keep looking for it.
So I went out to lock up the coops. Mostly covered pens, except for a small hole in the top. So it would take some crawling and climbing.
I'm about 60+feet away and all heck breaks loose. I hear chickens banging into walls, see them flying outside in the dark. I run to help (birds flying at me now). I have my phone light and don't see anything. Everyone is ok, but I don't see anything.
There MAY be some small holes under the coop but very small.
I have a great dog that will search for "trespassers" when I give her a command and she didn't seem to find anything suspicious. Not looks of "something's under the coop", which she SEEMS to know.
I was a ways off and my light is low so I don't think I could have scared them.
My question is how common is it for the whole flock to freak out over nothing?
We don't have weasels, and since were surrounded by fencing and the dogs are always out, I'm surprised the skunk is even here. Our dogs have full run of the place. But it looked young.
Everyone was ok once I found them hiding outside.

Thanks, Ron!

She is 2 days old. She was in with the other 11 I hatched for my friend and the other Mottled chick that hatched the day before so I didn't notice it until late yesterday. I tried the zip tie splint and she just rolled over on her back. Then I tried a bit of string between 2 zip ties about 3 times and she got it off all 2 times. The electical tape is working very well and even allow me to adjust it without any problem. I just looked at the Nutri Drench and there is no Vit B in it. It contains Lysine, Methionine, Calcium, Vit A, D-3 and E. I have something called "Total Energy" that contains folic acid, B2, B3, B4, B5 and B12. (no iron) . l also have Avitrol avian vitamins which contains Vit A,D3, E, C, B1, B2, B6, B12, K, Pantothenic Acid, Niacinomide and Choline.(no iron)
This is good! You started treatment when she was under 3 days old she should turn around pretty quickly. The poly vi sol with iron seems to be everywhere. I had to go to 4 places before I found the stuff without.

I set the hovabator up for the first big dicky hatch.
This made me chuckle...I work with 15 year old boys and raised a son..what can I say??

Final count 39 chicks:) 3 are still fluffing up in the bator. 2 eggs failed to pip.

Congrats!!! what a great hatch you had!

can you put a board down on the bottom of the pen? Or ( sorry I know its not popular) a trap the chickens cant trigger, like a rat zapper in your coop?

I think my dad has one he doesn't use. I may try that myself

I set the hovabator up for the first big  dicky hatch.  I wont need it this time, but it will hold 60  hatchers with room for the water cup. I bet I have to get a  cover for the cup with the eggs being higher then they were.

the  set now was 18/24 seabrights  that are looking to be lockdown friday ( shipped from texas) .  I  finished the last hatch and  sanitized everything.  I have about 15 project eggs I don't remember if the went in  the 11th or the 14th!  I will  check them for veins Friday and  see, lol.

Yay babies!!

How many sprays per bird and how do you get it to the skin or can you spray in the legs or back of the neck since it works thru the glands
I spray Once on the back end, not on the vent but on skin for Small ones(The OEs and Partridge Penes). The Med size ones get one on the rear and one under a wing--on skin. The Big Aussies and RIRs get three adding a a spray under the other wing.

Technically, you are supposed to weigh them and go by weight. The Chicken Dr. does this and has instructions on his website.

This works though.

What about when the birds preen? Won't they get it in their mouths if it's in the back?
I like the rat trap.
What's your thoughts on this:

Those are good for Foxes and etc. Rats would ignore it.

I treat them at night so it soaks in by morning. They seem fine after treatment. I treated half of them two nights ago and will treat the rest tonight. I was too tired last night.

What a bad year for the little buggies....
