Looking for a game/game mix rooster like my boy Ray was. I need a fierce fighter of peacocks. The feed bills are going up with the number of peacocks and my current boys let even the pea hens walk all over them...Ray is turning over in the landfill I am sure. Anyway Kim Riley said she would bring hatching eggs to me at Karen's Party but I won't be there. Will any of you that are closeish to Lake County be there? and will you be able/willing to hatch them for me? This is still in the "maybe" stage. If all goes well someone will be broody then and I won't have to worry about the incubation part.

@chiqita your marketing help worked. I found a home for the three meaty boys...1 NH/Dorking, 1NH/CA Grey, 1 Del/CA Grey. I also have someone coming to take the 4 LF sex link girls and the rest of the Bantams on Saturday. I am keeping one gold and one silver. They are pretty much the most adorable things ever. Was going to keep several of the LF girls too but turns out there is demand.

Harriet's eggs under Jamie Lee Curtis are due to hatch on Saturday. There were 9, one was clear last week. Last night I could see that one had broken under her and there is one that has a sloshy embryo. Thinking I should take that one out so then there will be 6.

Should I junk the sloshy embryo? Today is day 18. I would hate for it to break under her and mess with the viables but I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on it last night when I peaked.

Are the pea fowl wild or your birds as well. They might be conditioned to accept them because you do or still deferring dangerous duties to the now missing alpha male.

They are feral. I throw rocks at them (lucky for them I am a terrible shot) and chase them out of the uncovered run all the time. No way any one thinks I accept them. My former roo was a Bad ***** but he died before either of these two came to live with me. He was a barnyard mix and I believe part Game. That is why I am ISO a boy to replace him...plus games make great broodies and you all know how I feel about them!!!

My vet friend raises games, but i dunno how they would be with other roosters. his little boys play with the roosters, so they are people friendly ( well he knows what ones are at least) but they beat the crap out of each other. AS I'm thinking about this, i'm thinking its a bad idea lol.
Also, as someone who has had a few eggs asspolde last week, i say junk the slosher on day 18.

Yes, if it is a clear or dead looking egg, chuck it!

No Stinky eggs!

Ok, so 2 weeks later I found the toe punch. Is that too old to do it?
I'm feeling like 2 weeks is too old

Possums... My grandpa used to keep one in the back shed. She made her home in the attic and he left her there. He'd haul me back with a ladder and flashlight so we could see her babies. He also had a small chicken flock. Interesting that the possum never bothered them! Now I know why, they were probably full on snails! Never knew that about possums. Seeing them in a different light now. Always thought - shudder - giant rat!

they are marsupials, like kangaroos and so forth, & their babies live in the mama's pouch until they're bigger -- absolutely no relationship to rats.

they have a LOT of small sharp-looking teeth, so they can often *look* fierce, but they mostly aren't -- if threatened they might hiss or growl, or possibly "play possum" (i.e. pretend to be dead in the hopes that the threat will go away), but they are not attack animals. they are usually described as scavengers and/or "opportunistic omnivores," i.e. they'll eat whatever they find, but they are not *predators* in the classic sense. I don't doubt that they'd eat a chicken if it was easy to get a hold of, but generally they shouldn't be a big problem, esp. if your chickens are in a safe coop at night (opossums are mostly nocturnal).

the good news!
Celerys eggs are all hatching, she has 5 babies under her right now and the suckers are FAST. SHe is clearly responding to the peeping and is not waiting for whistles, and the ducks seem to like her and crawled back under immediatly.

I will look and see if the rest look ok tonight if they are safely internally pipped or what. She is a FIERCE momma she bit and HUNG ON when I counted beaks. I'm going to have an impressive briuse, shes not like her biological mother Stuffing at all!

The bad news is my first sitting muscovys eggs are going off! I have thrown out 5 stinkers now and she asspolded one. With the clears i pulled her nest is rapidly decreasing. I'm worried she will have nothing to hatch! I threw away about 4 of Pumpkins duck eggs as well ( shipped) . what could be contaminating all the duck eggs? funny sitting?

I know I would have to be more vigilant but we already are pretty good at the rooster shuffle. Kim Riley is the one with the birds. I don't know her BYC name but she is going to be at Karen's party. I won't be there but was hoping to avoid the PO and have some one sort of close bring them this way but if that doesn't work there is always a plan b c or d
