Oh, Ron, it does have a cover. I zip tied chicken wire all across the top, a hen could jump on it and not fall through. The problem is I left a little space where I can pull it back to access their food and water, and it keeps leaving a small space where they can escape. I need to fix it tomorrow so it stays down but can still be opened. Not sure how I'll do it but I'll figure something out

Speaking of chickens being good fliers...I accidentally locked them out of the coop one night and found my Splash Andalusian 12 feet up in a tree!

She isn't that high up, but the Arkansas Blues are good fliers too

Good idea, thanks Amy!

Ron, what a cute bird! It's so funny how people think chickens can't fly. Obviously the fat ones can't, but my light breeds have no trouble flying. My poor Light Brahmas were running around on the ground scared for the lives when I accidentally locked them out of the coop, while everyone else was up in the trees lol! I'm surprised they can even fly up to the coop, it's a good few feet off the ground! But they do it every day.

You're welcome

Of course, the main quick/cheap fasteners are twist ties, zip ties, and duct tape. Only one works for repeated opening and closing

if you have a big run id look on ebay and look at the heavy duty 2" poultry netting. its good stuff and easier to use than chicken wire
i get the sizes bigger than my runs and cut down to what I need

Good point...all situations have good & bad. We each decide what is most important to us. I have few predators, but still some.

So cute.................little girl seems totally comfortable with those big Mamas.....LOL
The Orpingtons are so sweet. When my brooders are too full I put the 8 week olds in the Orp pen and they baby sit them.

I haven't tried that but I do put several different age groups together in the grow out bins with no problem.
I wish I could come to your seminar & you could come to my party. I have CLB eggs coming from a local "Chicken Lovin" friend that will be at the party so technically I do not have CLB yet but hope to soon.
