So i just checked and you guys were right its feather lice. i only have permethryn on hand would that work on them?
Yes, it will work.

Make sure that there are not bees around when treating them.

You should also worm them with safeguard--Check with Kathy for dosage.

Need a bigger " pool" these ducks are getting so big:)

And this made me wonder about adding ducks to an aquaponics system I was thinking about doing so google found this for me.

Though it might not be a bad thing to add bathtub sized pool to my yard I may actually be able to have ducks then. There isnt much problem mixing ducks and chickens is there? The feed store said to one person buying both ducklings and chicks that the ducks couldnt have the medicated feed.

Ive uded it once before and it didnt kill the lice. though as ironic as it is distilled vinegar will kill them on contact. i have used it before im just trying to figure out where tge lice are coming from

They come from wild birds or newly added chickens.

Dust them like Kelly described, put the dust in the nest boxes and the bottom of the coop.

Repeat in 10 days. You will likely have to do this several times a year.

Re dusting, should I also dust on her back since that's where she has broken feathers? I highly doubt I have mites or lice but it sure can't hurt to check with a dusting! I just need to find a box to put her in...

Yes, the goal is to get the dust everywhere but the face.

Someone said shake and bake! Put some dust in a garbage bag, put the chicken in up to the neck and gently shake the dust onto them.

Make sure the dust gets near the vent and under the wings. Maybe were a painters mask too.
