Does anyone know how effective the PROZAP garden & Poultry dust is for treating poultry lice? I have some of that and Sevin Dust 5%. I have been reading that the PROZAP is more environmentally friendly, but want to use what will work. Any feedback on it?
Poultry dust works great!. If they have active mites/lice, you need to treat and then treat again in 10 days as it does not kill the eggs. Dust their bums and under their wings.

I have poultry dust in both powder and liquid concentrate. I like the liquid concentrate because I can dilute it in a spray bottle and spray the chickens bums when they are roosting on the perch. I spray them every couple of months as preventative. One squirt usually does the trick. If they do get mites/lice then you should use the powder and dust under their wings also.

What spray do you have Deann?? I want to get it & add it to my arsenal.....LOL. Do you get the cylinder called poultry dust just at a place like Tractor supply? Years ago I had fleas in a flock of chickens & the county Ag advisor had me wait til they roosted & spray them with Sevin & spray their coop. Has anyone done that? I was shocked to be able to spray them like that.. Pretty soon I will need a bigger box in my cupboard for my medical supplies....LOL
My son has been my chicken helper for some time now & we started treating for mites/lice/whatever recently after a friend pointed out indication of leg mites. I have been interested in building a collection of recommended treatments for all things "chicken" ever since. Ron mentioned a few things from Amazon that I ordered immediately. Getting the help to get things done on a regular basis is my problem. I am not wanting to give up having my chickens yet but as we all know there is maintenance involved.......LOL

I don't think Nikki is coming to the party but anyone live near her that can carry eggs her way? I am sure we can fix her up. There must be hatching eggs everywhere. I certainly am willing to share.............. getting them to her is the problem.

Not always.  I've had those of the same breed feather in differently and be the same sex.

Left cockerel, right pullet.

We're warm enough now, they'll be fine outdoors.

Yes.  I sprinkle some in my nest boxes, dust bathing areas and under the shavings in the coop to keep the creepy crawlies away.

Hold them upside down with one arm and against your body.  Put a good amount on their butt and work your fingers backwards through the feathers to get it down in there.  I like to do under each wing as well. (another hot spot)  Warning:  You will get dirty, plan on showering after.
My bottle if permethrin dust said 1lb per 100 birds so I dilutes it with de and shoved them into a cat litter pan full. Wonder if I should have used it full strength but thought it would be to strong?

That's what my bottle says and I use it full strength. FWIW, I once tried using DE for feather lice and it made no difference even when I completely cover the bird in it.

permethrin is very non toxic to Animals. The Army used to soak soldiers in it to prevent bugs from getting them. The biggest problem is if they breath it. It is very toxic to the Bugs so it is a very odd and targeted poison.

I have been treating the coops and roosts with a diluted permethrin spray for a while not. It was recommended on California Chickens because you can spray the bottom of the roosts with it. The instructions say you can use it every two weeks in the coops. Mites live in the cracks in wood and come out at night to feed on the birds. If you can kill them in the cracks and stop them from crawling on the roosts, mites will not be as much of a problem.

Why am I feeling the urge to scratch now?
