UGH am I the only person left on the planet without an incubator? lol.

I kind of want a little bitty Brinsea so I am limited in what I can set (to allay the "Hatch ALL the eggs!" feeling), but I did also send my husband the link to the home-made incubator page here.

Sigh, I'm with you. I just got a Tolbunt Polish and her eggs are fertile and purebred...it feels like a waste to not hatch them! Anyone have an incubator I can borrow? LOL

Anyone know how long the Tolbunt Polish will be giving me fertilized eggs? She is no longer with a rooster, but was with one when I got her.

I've always heard three weeks, but I know some people who say it's been longer and some who say the fertility rate is very low in less time then that.

Or better yet, anyone have an incubator I can borrow or rent in a few weeks? :) I have always wanted to hatch out my own chicks but never thought I would be able to...don't have an incubator or fertilized eggs. But now that I have some fertilized eggs I'm motivated to find an incubator I can borrow, or rent.

BCollie, have you tried Papa Brooder to see if he has space?

ETA You might try the 4-H extension office to see if they have loaners or info.

If you have a way to get them to you from Karen's party, I can send EE eggs.  They are fun to hatch :)

I have tried since November to hunt down Miss Molly and her Brabanters.  Which CL town/area should I be looking for?

Anyone know what causes yolk sac infection?
Had some chicks die and sent 2 in for necropsy.  Since then none others from that batch have died.  The cause was yolk sac infection.  That is so strange to me!  Is that contagious?  All that died were from the same farm (shipped eggs) and then the last one was a hatch mate, also shipped in, from another farm.

I don't know anything about this.  Always something new to learn!

On a positive note - incubator is a poppin!  Maybe 20 hatched so far...

Were they your eggs or shipped? This can be from stuff passed in the ovaduct or something they picked up via the incubator.

They get bacteria in the egg yolk sack while it is open or still absorbing The last bits or the umbilicus is raw. I have been zapping everone with a shot of vet if the belly button is pink.

I would use activated oxy on your bator just in case.

This is One of the arguments for wadhing eggs in activated oxine before hatching bloom or not.

I just sent him a message about 30/45 minutes ago to see if I could pay him to hatch out some chicks for me in a few weeks. I would prefer being able to do it myself with a borrowed or rented incubator but any way I can get these eggs to hatch works, even if it means having someone else do it. :)
What is the 4-H extension office?
