That's pretty neat... How would you install this? I am concerned about heat build up in my coop this summer. The only chickens I have ever lost to anything other than predators was 2 to the heat last sunner

Big excitement in the coop this week. The first little clutch of Seramas hatched!5 hatched of 7 eggs set, shared between 2 hens.![]()
An odd thing happened though. I accidentally removed one egg thinking it belonged to a Silkie. The egg sat on my counter overnight in temps that got down to 58º. The next morning my son noticed the egg was marked #2 Serama egg, so I though I'd put it back and see what happened. Surprisingly, 3 days later, it hatched! It was the biggest egg too, which is why I mistook it for the Silkie's egg.I think it might be the larger of the yellow chicks. Would being chilled make a chick a bit "sticky"?![]()
Another nest should hatch Saturday and a third nest next week.
This is our first time hatching. Sure it won't be the last. Think we are in BIG trouble here!![]()

Looks pretty green. How did she spell it? If I have ths right...even of both parent are pure true Ameraucana, if the offspring is not one of the approved colors, then it is considered an EE. I have seen chicks in the feed stores that had it spelled right , but I could guarantee they were most likely EE.
Quote: Me too..... I have one true Blue Wheaten Ameaucana and one Buff X Wheaten color cross from @chickee and they much bluer eggs. That said, one lays very slightly greener eggs than the other. You can see it in the picture, but not with the naked eye. The one on the left is from the Buff X Wheaten and is more blue. The other is from the pure Blue Wheaten. Interestingly, the smaller hen lays the bigger eggs.

I would cut a hole in the roof, (im sure there is a collar on it some where that it can rest on the roof) and seal it in with a roof repair sealant/adhesive calkThat's pretty neat... If I get the breeding space I'm going to work on blue eggs with the Legbars. Lots of ideas running through my head.Looks pretty green. How did she spell it? The feed store had bantams in this one time while I was there and they were so small that one got stuck on its back in a valley made in the corn cob litter when it got ran over by other chicks. It looked like a turtle on its back. I nudged it back over and it got ran over again about a minute later but was able to recover this time.Congrats! They are SO cute and tiny! I hope my 2 free Bantam eggs develop/hatch, I've never seen a bantam baby before, they sure look darn cute though.
