Deb, that one is super small. Is it a micro? The little mottled chick in our group is the smallest. Very short legs and small feet compared to the others. Calling it Stumpy.
It was the smallest serama I've ever hatched. It ended up a Class A bird.
I can't get over how tiny bantam eggs are.
I can only imagine the size of the chick that's going to come out of these eggs. I have two of them, hopefully at least one will hatch!
That's actually a fairly big egg compared to a small serama egg. I love Japanese bantam. Do you know what color they were from? When my son was in 4-H he raised Black Tailed Whites.
Keep in mind that Japanese are a breed with a fatal gene, like dwarfing. 25% will be normal legged, 50% will be short legged (correct) & 25% of chicks will not survive. I don't recall if they die in the shell or shortly after hatch. But it works the same as dwarfs and tufts in araucanas. This of course is assuming the roo/hens being bred were short legged.
Just so you know that if they don't hatch, it doesn't necessarily meant you did anything wrong.
I do love a nice Japanese bantam though, they are a striking bird.
