Good morning all!

I am wondering what the withdrawl period for eating/hatching eggs is for chickens being given Tylan injections. Can we hatch the eggs while they are being given the injections? If not, how long after they stop getting the injections do I need to wait until it is safe to eat/hatch the eggs again?

I set some eggs from peafowl that were treated with antibiotics and wormer while they were laying, so I would say yes on setting them, but be prepared to cull if you find any with deformaties. Not sure what the withdrawal for eating them is. Two weeks maybe?

Since use in aying hens is an "Off Label" use, you won't find anything official on egg withdrawal. Most things I can find are for Tyland Soluable powder ans there is no egg withdrawal time for that. The injectable may stay in the system longer so I would wait at least 10 days. Some say their Vet said 21 days. I saw one that said her vet told her 6 months

I suppose I deserve this one occasionally...
LOL!!!! Thats a good one!

Tylan is an anti biotic and we take anti biotics like it. The small amount we would get eating the eggs would not do anything.

Are we scared that some bacteria in us would become drug resistant? Doubtful given the little amount that would be in an egg. It is against the law to sell them but we can eat them if we want to.

Dawg53 brought up a good point about antibiotic residue in eggs... He said that there could be enough that if a person were allergic to that drug that it could cause a reaction. Personally, I would eat the eggs, but I have no drug allergies.

Very good point!

That is one reason for not selling them too.
