thanks, i did read those. right now i notice on three roos, no pullets but maybe i just can't see it because their combs aren't as big. i'm gonna go peruse the flock consider separating out the ones that I can see and perhaps trying the molasses and adding some more buckets of fresh water in addition to the nipples. although the first roo i noticed it on is the one I bought recently as an adult pair and it is separated from the rest of the flock already and drinking out of a bucket i fill daily. interesting that it's called "pullets disease" and I only see roos with is and that the remedies mentions are helpful for hens. :-( what about the roos?

Quote: been reading about it but the only thing i really see is the bluish comb and that it's common after an intense heat spell. at this point i'm looking at some vitamin supplementation and molasses but i'm gonna go do a thorough inspection of the flock right now and see if i'im missing anything.

Ok now I'm confused. The combs aren't blue anymore!! I can't see any signs of blue at all?!? What does that mean? Guess I'm on hold for doing anything. :)

How strange! Maybe you ran them around and got their circulation going!

so another option on some coops. I built this 3x3x5 grow up pen I attach to the small coop I made for the youngsters. I was thinking of using this plan. adding a pitched roof to make it a few feet taller on the sides. making it nicer. maybe enclose it completely with redwood fence boards. metal roof. ( I built this in 3 hours and it is solid) think I could make some pretty nice oops out of the same frame.. hmmm will keep this one as my grow up pen.
Turned out Awesome Jason

Hi Jeff,

What do you feed them? I would stay away from scratch or anything high in carbs. I had a chicken die from fatty liver disease-- her liver ruptured.

Maybe mix some granulate kelp into the feed for the Cream Legbars. I give mine1/3 C per 6 or 7 pounds. They may still be adjusting to the heat wave. It could also be because of the cooler weather.

Just an idea, but you might want to go to a British Cream Legbar forum and ask there. One of them was a Marans though?

Trying to catch up on the posts.

I am going to Lodi today at 4 for a Delta Backyard Poultry Meetup Group meeting. We are doin s finger food potluck pic nic t the Lodi Wine Cellars patio & will have a chicken talk. I live in Turlock so I will leave around 3 I guess.
Last week end there was a Friends of Feathers chicken get together here at my house. Nothing official, just a fun get together. It was the first time I had tried anything like that but it went over so well I will do it again. I had alot of help putting it together. Another local chicken lover wants to have a chicken get together at her place in Delhi somewhere around Easter so if anyone is interested give me your name & I will get you on the list to be notified. We had a meet & greet round robin last weekend at my house so everyone there gets to know everyone eles, where they live, what they raise etc. We have a great raffle with donated chicken related items.....such fun...!!!!! It is a pot luck & we had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay alot of food....LOL
One of the raffle prizes was the new forage greens trays I have been making. Cheryl had one at her get together as a raffle prize that George (PetRock's) husband had made. We all wanted to win it but I didn't so I came home & have been making my own since. My process has evolved since I made my first ones. I think I finally have it down to as cheap & fast as I can get it. The metal hardware was a big expense & I found away around it. My chickens love the greens so much I can't keep enough growing. I bought 20 trays so when I finish tham all maybe I can get a rotation going. If your chickens get to free range you don't need them but most of my chickens are in breeding pens without access to fresh green grass etc. Debi gave me the name of the company you get the forage mix seed from so I got 10lbs. Groworganics.com It must be very popular because they run out & I had to wait for my order to be filled.
I am off to staple the hardware cloth to my greens trays.
Anyone local enough that wants to do some let me know & we will set up a workshop day.
I am going to put this on the other Calif threads too
