Okay so a weird thing happened today. long sgory short mama hen kicked aba egg and when i opened it the yolk look like it boiled but the whites were still liquid it had also putrified so it was like grey green. any idea what happen?

The Embryo died and then started rotting like all dead things do. Circle of life and all that!

If you can figure out when it died, then you can figure out what caused it.

It sounds like it was early so that would be Bacteria or heat spike.

Was the egg close to the motor for the auto turner?(If you have one that is)

There still could have been a heat spike if the the embryo died during the heat wave. It did get up to 110 in Redding. I do not know how hot it got up Hwy. 36 that day during the last one. A broody would have a hard time keeping the eggs cool in that kind of heat.

It could have been bacteria though. I have seen veins, an embryo and then a blood ring followed by a dead embryo.
