Hi Kim,

I have chicks coming from Sandhill tomorrow (now that was a frustrating experience) I ordered two breeds that I really wanted and filled in two more to make the 25 order. Weeks and weeks after I placed the order, I was told the one I most wanted wasn't available and to pick something else. I did, so now I was only getting one breed I really wanted. The phone message to say they had mailed my chicks said that the other breed I reallly wanted wasn't available either, they threw in more of my other extra breed...........

So now you are getting 25 chicks that you didn't really want? Oh heavens. Sounds like something that would happen to me! What breeds are they sending you?

I'm getting Blue Andalusians to replace the Iowa Blues that they couldn't send. I'm getting Silver Campine because I wanted a couple of birds to add genetic diversity to the ones I had. I'm getting a double order of White Leghorns (the ones I ordered and to replace the Tomaru that they couldn't send). I wanted to end up with 2-3 leghorn girls for a breeding project.

So we'll see, all chicks are cute anyway.

an FYI to myself, we are getting home late from volleyball games. and so i am doing chores around 7 at night. I can see but not well in the coop and so I got lazy and didn't take a flash light. I searched with my hands to find eggs. well i found a pile of something else instead. YUCK!!!! so tonight a game in Citrus Heights and be home late again. I will take a flashlight with me, LOL!!

This seems to be a PITA case...
We will see how ours goes.
The permit seems expensive than the eggs. Too bad the birds are also raised as pets.
On one hand I agree with you about the chickens. 6 chickens at a neighbors house wouldn't bother me (and shame to your neighbors for turning you in when you shared the bounty!) However, I agree with teh officials about the beehives. If you were out in the country, it wouldn't be a problem because the neighbors couldn't say for sure that whatever stung them was from your hive. From the sounds of it, you live in the city where honey bees are a lot less common. Also, you must take into consideration that there are quite a few people who are allergic to bee stings. My mother is allergic to any kind of bee sting, whether it's honey bee or wasp or whatever. I wouldn't want her to live next to someone who kept bees in their backyard. Now, I don't know if any of your neighbors are allergic and thus complained. I would ask you if there were any newcomers to your neighborhood who might have been told about your hives. Also, if you do, ask them if they are allergic or if a frequent visitor is allergic so that you might determine whether they have a real reason to complain or if they just don't like bees and don't want them near them. Obviously they did their homework to discover just what the regulations were for your city. Either way, in all honesty, I have to admit that I wouldn't have kept bees in a city in the first place. But I'd keep at them about the chickens. So long as they aren't disturbing anyone and are properly tended, I think it would be perfectly fine to keep as many as you want.

Quote: hansolo only has chickens? The beehive was for a different person that had the permit denied and is now appealing.

I did not easily see how much the permit was.

Beehives are becoming a new thing now. A lot of people are getting them. I do not know how they work in a city however. Others here have them so maybe they can help us understand how it works in a city.
