Super CuteChicks are growing like weeds (ok some are, some aren't, the size discrepancy among the splash chicks is kinda nutty considering they're only a week apart in age; they are my biggest and my smallest chicks, including the ones that are week YOUNGER than the small splash chicks). Feathering in also ranges from nearly feathered to nothing but fuzz. Can't wait to figure out which ones are hens (*fingers crossed* for the lone black chick!).Sure are adorable

Thanks again! I picked it up and was giddy to be able to see little wiggles in my Cochin eggs!i appreciate the thought! If thw ovascope was closer id buy it. Needs new batteries for dark eggs. I have flashlight candlers and mario steals them >>. Hed leave that alone.
She had 5. I pulled them last night (Thank you @ronott1 for the assurance ) and will give them back on Saturday with a few more if she's still sitting. The eggs are my bantam Cochins over 2 Cream Legbar pullets and my broody LF Cochin, same mix hatching from the incubator on SundayHow many is she sitting on? I usually only give a few eggs to my first timers and they are always eggs that I haven't paid money for or that I have extra of. If I were in your place and she just started sitting on them yesterday, I would only give her 8 at the most and be prepared to put them in the incubator if she deserts them. I would also go ahead and add more today if the ones that she is sitting on are fewer than 4 and only a day old. I usually don't give my broodies eggs until they have been actively broody for at least 4-5 days. I also dump them off the nest several times during the day to see if they can be distracted and not return to the proper nest. I hope that everything goes smoothly for you. I love having broody mamas with their babies!

Good job raising a couple of great little chicken mamas! Hope the little one is doing well. It's a good thing that my daughters insist on being outside if they know the chicks are in our yard! The chicks were by the pond, and one slipped and fell inMy older daughter scooped the chick out immediately, and brought it in to be towel dried (we don't own a hair dryer, never have). Dried it off in the bathroom, with the heat light/fan on, then moved into my bedroom, where the little forced air heater is, to get the last dampness out before taking it back out to go under Frieda.
Pictures Please!Keet update... one of them zipped out. umbilicus looks perfect! -Kathy

Welcome - as we say here - California is just a state of mindI always felt that north up from Bakerfield is central not North. Live in Alaska now, but grew up in California
