Thank you. My girls are currently confine to their house and covered run. When the flyway thins out, the disease should abate.

Hi Walt!
I try to keep mine away from all wild birds all year around. Leg mites, other parasites, diseases, who needs them. I'm confining them because the darn local geese seem to migrate between the elementary school behind me and the junior high at the end of the block. I have had no success in persuading them to wear diapers while flying over my yard. B^(
It is as unpleasant in your hair as seagull flops.

Anyone in No CA get the news about the CA Foster Farms turkeys (about 4500) that got euthanized for avian flu? Apparently the virus is spreading in our Statbire. If it's not one dam* virus it's another! With wild birds flitting around with the virus (wild ducks/geese/etc) I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel for control/eradication. The virus hits so hard that the poultry is dead in a matter of hours before you see any symptoms.
Yeah, I have been watching warily because I live quite near to a sizable wildlife refuge that hosts massive amounts of wild waterfowl. They often make pit stops in town. One of the reasons my bird runs are always covered. As flocks fly overhead my loudmouth Pekin calls out to them. Quiet, duck! They are not our friends! They find A I somewhere every year. Keep your birds away from wild waterfowl.

Oh, yeah. I live maybe a mile as the duck flies from the wildlife refuge on SF Bay, and the local year around geese and other waterfowl and seabirds hang out with the migrating birds, and then pass over my yard. It's really strange. It seems some of our local resident populations do migrate - between the various parks and golf courses. We took out our lawns, partly to save water, and partly because I don't like goose flops all over my yard and deck.
I have to admit that I do enjoy watching the geese parent their young at the local park that has a sinkhole (renamed a lake) in the center of it. The parents are so attentive and protective.
