Oops, I thought you said Blue was recognized? Maybe this one is more lavender? She might have a black one I'll ask her. This is our first year showing as you can probably tell, lol.

Self blue is lavendar. you also want AMERICIAN orphs, not ENGLISH orphs. theya re more of a challenge to find, but its worth it! Lisa might have some too,

Plenty of people over in the Imported English Orpington thread are showing their birds here in the States and doing very well with them (they certainly come closer to the SOP than hatchery stock).

The English Orps don't do well in an APA show. They are way to fluffy and loose feathered. The British Standard and the APA Standard are very close but the birds that came over here look more like our Cochins than Orps. Free ranging a British Orp is a problem in wet weather. On top of that everyone is claiming that they are British Orps when many times they are hybrids to hatchery birds. If you want a big good looking fluffy bird get them.. They look kind of cool, but they are not going to do well in any kind of show...people say all kinds of things online. At the Ohio National the Brit Orps were not placing...they say all kinds of crazy things in the British Orpington thread. Some want to start a club that will put the APA out of business........it's not doing all that well. It's calledThe Royal Orpington Club if you want to find out all kinds of misinformation.

Bottom line is: if you don't plan to show and just want a fluffy chicken to watch, why not get them?

yes, its tough! I had blues last year from someones eggs ( kytinpusher maybe??) and she was having issues with people turning the nose up at the american versions, and was not sure if she would be able to keep them.
I don't know the name of the guy who brings his buffs to stockton, but OM>>G he has the most amazing birds . Big, maybe too big, but ..wow...

Im in san Francisco bay area but closer to santa cruz(right off of highway 17)! Im looking for the (in my case) illusive buff laced polish a few other bantam breeds and a black copper maran. And Im interested in wyandottes but if tls farms are going to be selling barnevelder eggs soon I will choose those over the wyandottes!!
