California - Northern

I have Black Copper Manans and Olive Egger eggs set to hatch next Saturday. I have read these are normally late on hatching. Is this true?

Yes. Dont fret if 22 is here and you baby isn't out.

oh it was so good. =) I had some family over to give me a hand and put some away for next weekend, gonna have a big Easter party =)

Wish I had a plucker lol but I'd also rather process rabbits then birds. But I raise chickens for eggs and water fowl and rabbits for amusement and for food.... and they are all so much fun =) excepting some of my favorites which are just for me to enjoy and propagate =)

And thats the spirit!!!

Are ALL Crested Cream Legbar chicks with a spot boys or is it dependent on the size of he spot?

It is more the chipmunk pattern you look for. The more distinct chipmunk pattern will be girls. The spot is less reliable because both pullets and cockerels are barred. There should be a small spot on the girls and a big almost smear on the boys.

Girls will have strong Eye liner too. Boys will sometimes have fairly strong striping but by no means asd clear as the girls. Contrast is pretty clear. Girls are clearly girls some boys may be girls but with poor autosexing. Girls without clear autosexing should not be bred.

Yes! Eyeliner is part of the chipmunk pattern

I well get a better picture of it. It is also more on the lack side than the others, which look more reddish
Ive had boys both ways I think the differences bear out in how much chestnut will show up or the possiblity of mismatches between hackle and saddle feather colors and barring.

The boys tend to be in a wide range of shades girls are pretty definite in the striping though clear and aside from a very small headspot on occasion clearly traverse the entire chick
